Sinopsis

Hugh Lofting's "The Story of Doctor Dolittle" (Illustrated Edition) introduces readers to a meticulous world where the boundary between human and animal experiences blurs harmoniously. Through lavish illustrations and rich prose, Lofting crafts a narrative that not only entertains but also promotes themes of empathy, communication, and the interconnectedness of life. Set in a fantastical version of the Victorian era, the story follows Doctor Dolittle, a physician who possesses the extraordinary ability to speak with animals, embarking on whimsical adventures that underscore the importance of compassion and understanding in a rapidly industrializing world. Hugh Lofting, an English author and civil engineer, drew upon his experiences in both the natural world and the devastation of World War I to create a beloved character that resonated with audiences seeking solace amidst chaos. His childhood fascination with animals and deep respect for nature influenced the creation of Doctor Dolittle, a figure who transcends societal norms and represents a bridge between humans and the animal kingdom. This illustrated edition of Lofting's classic work is an essential read for both children and adults, inviting audiences to rediscover the magic of empathy and the beauty of diverse voices. Its blend of adventure, humor, and profound lessons on acceptance makes it a timeless addition to any literary collection, encouraging readers to embrace their curiosities while nurturing their compassion.

Human Is by Philip K. Dick - She noticed the change in her husband -- but she had married for better or worse!
Jill Herrick's blue eyes filled with tears. She gazed at her husband in unspeakable horror. "You're — you're hideous!" she wailed.
Lester Herrick continued working, arranging heaps of notes and graphs in precise piles.
"Hideous," he stated, "is a value judgment. It contains no factual information." He sent a report tape on Centauran parasitic life whizzing through the desk scanner. "Merely an opinion. An expression of emotion, nothing more."
Jill stumbled back to the kitchen. Listlessly, she waved her hand to trip the stove into activity. Conveyor belts in the wall hummed to life, hurrying the food from the underground storage lockers for the evening meal.
She turned to face her husband one last time. "Not even a little while?" she begged. "Not even —"
"Not even for a month. When he comes you can tell him. If you haven't the courage, I'll do it. I can't have a child running around here. I have too much work to do. This report on Betelgeuse XI is due in ten days." Lester dropped a spool on Fomalhautan fossil implements into the scanner. "What's the matter with your brother? Why can't he take care of his own child?"
Jill dabbed at swollen eyes. "Don't you understand? I want Gus here! I begged Frank to let him come. And now you —"
"I'll be glad when he's old enough to be turned over to the Government." Lester's thin face twisted in annoyance. "Damn it, Jill, isn't dinner ready yet? It's been ten minutes! What's wrong with that stove?"

In every part of the world, deep in sweltering jungles, high atop mountain peaks,
tucked away in rolling hill sides, valleys, plains and vast deserts,
there lies a series of magical, Mystical Lakes.
These Mystical Lakes were designed to be a sacred place that would
give whomever asked a question to them the answers they were searching for.
Yet take heed; the answers are not always what one wants them to be, but rather
the answers they truly need to hear, to heal and to grow. In their waters
they would reflect one’s inner treasure and the kind of dragons that fiercely
guarded it. They were to be a place that would show any adventurer what was
holding them back, and how to let it go. Also, illuminating just how magnificent
and important those that peer into them are; and little one, you are so very important.
There are so many precious moments when raising a child, and one of my daughter
and I’s favorites was bedtime, and the stories that would pop into mind. On one
particular evening, a story of a magical mystical lake came through, that could help kids
and parents with the difficult issues affecting our world. Since there are billions of
people on this planet, then there are billions of questions, billions of needs,
and through this first book in a long series, we begin to delicately unravel
the mysteries we all navigate as children and adults.
