Summary

First published in 1991, this is the story of New York City. Friday night. Untouched by anything visible, Mrs Greenberg's furniture starts to slide across the room - and however hard she tries, she can't move it back.

Harry Erskine, self-taught fortune teller, agrees to investigate - but soon realises that Mrs Greenberg's moving furniture is just the beginning of a nightmare, for it is being drawn by the same inexorable force which drags us all to the grave.

City by city, America is on the brink of falling into the abyss - women and children, streets and buildings - one and all brought thundering and screaming into the dominion of the dead...
Available since: 10/22/2012.
Print length: 560 pages.

Takes In Vein by Diotima Sophia. These stories reveal the truth about Vampires as told by a rather special vampire. Not the romantic or even the really nastily horrific stories that the non-vampires amongst us have dreamed up. Tracing a life lived over centuries from Ancient Rome, right through to the more modern Texas, these stories are linked by the narrator with interludes of explanation. Subtly dark and with enough horror behind to send a shudder down the spine in places, but with gentle humour and a facility for twisting the historic truth just so much that the fictitious explanation makes sense in context.

TORN BETWEEN PEACE AND PASSION… Former serf Daniel had journeyed to Tanis in search of harmony between humans and vampires. Though the citadel's facade promised peace, it wasn't difficult to find the danger lurking in the shadows. Yet it was the Bloodlady known as Isis, an ancient, beautiful vampire, who proved the biggest threat to Daniel's heart. No human had ever excited Isis the way Daniel did. Though she desired him like no other, she knew he had been damaged, body and soul, by her own kind. Would his past forever stand between them? Or, worse, would the malicious forces who made Tanis their home destroy them both before they could explore their deepest hungers?

In In the Vault we find an undertaker trapped in the vault where coffins are stored during winter for burial in the spring, and is mysteriously injured when he escapes.

"In the Vault" was based on a suggestion made in August 1925 by Charles W. Smith, editor of the amateur journal Tryout, which Lovecraft recorded in a letter: "an undertaker imprisoned in a village vault where he was removing winter coffins for spring burial, & his escape by enlarging a transom reached by the piling up of the coffins".

This is the unabridged audio recording of M.R. James' excellent ghost story 'The Fenstanton Witch'. The author's stories were written with the purpose of being read aloud in the long tradition of spooky Christmas Eve tales. This highly-praised version, narrated by David Collings, is sure to scare and delight in equal measure.
