Summary

Gourmand World Cookbook Award winner: An “elegantly written, amusing and engaging” reference for chefs (Country Living).  Real Flavours is an entirely rewritten and updated third edition of Glynn Christian’s Delicatessen Food Handbook, described by Nigel Slater as “one of the only ten books you need.” It’s a handbook of specialty ingredient information, from salt and pepper through olive oil to caviar: It not only tells you what an ingredient is and what it should look and taste like, it also tells you what it goes with and how to use it.   Born in New Zealand and renowned in Britain for his BBC appearances, Glynn Christian offers plenty of wit and anecdotes from a life spent traveling, cooking on TV, and writing for magazines and newspapers—in a reference book you’ll end up reading like a novel.   “One of the best ever compendiums of gourmet and deli foods.” —Manchester Evening News

    -

    HERE SOME EXAMPLES:

    - According to Douglas Trumbull, the total footage shot was some 200 times the final length of the film.

    - According to Katharina Kubrick, Stanley Kubrick provided the breathing heard in the space-suits.

    - Stanley Kubrick calculated that it would take one person 13 years to hand draw and paint all the mattes needed to insert the assorted spacecraft into the starry backgrounds. Kubrick hired 12 other people, and did the job in one year.

    - There is no dialogue in the first 25 minutes of the movie (ending when a stewardess speaks at 25:38), nor in the last 23 minutes (excluding end credits). With these two lengthy sections and other shorter ones, there are around 88 dialogue-free minutes in the movie.

    - Stanley Kubrick cut 19 minutes from the film's original 158-minute running time after its New York premiere, mostly to speed up the pacing.

    - Stanley Kubrick had several tons of sand imported, washed and painted for the moon surface scenes.

    - An early draft of the script had narration.
