Summary

'Peck's Bad Boy and His Pa' is a juvenile fiction written by George W. Peck. The story unfolds with a young man going into a store, limping and looking discouraged. The store owner asks him what's wrong, and the young man explains that he played a joke on his father and has been limping ever since. He explains that he wrote a note in a fine hand and signed it "Daisy," asking his father to meet him on a street corner at 7:30pm. His father, dressed up, went to all four corners trying to find the person named Daisy. When he found out that he was being pranked, he became outraged at his son's actions.

Born in the Marshalsea Prison for Debtors, Amy-Little Dorrit-the daughter of the ruined, but self-respectful William Dorrit, has put her entire heart in caring for her dear father, until one day her humble path is crossed by Arthur Clennam. Their meeting proves providential not only for Amy's life, but for the whole Dorrit family, whose new rise will, in many ways, be also their fall. As in all his novels, in Little Dorrit Dickens ushers us into a fascinating and startlingly rich world of human characters and destinies, where virtue and nobility cross swords with vice and villainy, where strength and weakness intertwine with prejudice and magnanimity and where the author's inspired pen wields a compelling and unforgettable power over the readers. Welcome to the world of Nola Billingsley, a 40-something biotechnology whiz with an adored shorthaired pointer, who finds herself embroiled in both a nefarious murder and a blazingly hot new romance in the thriller A Pointed Death, by Katharine A. Russell. When techno genius Nola Billingsley finds her former employee, an amoral creep who stole secrets, murdered, she doesn’t exactly shed tears. Instead, she begins a flirtation with the inspector assigned to the case. With her shorthaired pointer Skootch watching her back, Nola and her group of techno pals try to help solve the murder, bringing into play Nola’s feisty feminism and idealism, and putting both her life and her love affair at risk. Finding a link between the Chinese government and American thieves, she bands with a group who believes that biotech people should protect their industry from any evil abusers. Could there be a government plot afoot, and can she save the world even as she tries to salvage her love life?
Smart, witty, and playful, A Pointed Death looks at the biotech industry with a decidedly feminine slant. The writing is edgy and full of humor, and the plot twists and turns with surprise after surprise. A breathtaking thriller with a unique background, A Pointed Death announces the debut of an enormously talented new writer to watch.

America’s 911 system is supposed to be for emergencies only. But some people apparently didn’t get the memo, because the following are some of their responses when asked by dispatchers, “What’s your emergency?”
      - “Yeah, I want to order a pizza.”
      - “I’ve been standing all day and my feet hurt.”
      - “I just swallowed a penny. Am I going to die?”
      - “I want an officer to come out and take care of a low-flying aircraft.”
      - “When does the Burger King open?”
New York Times best-selling author Leland H. Gregory III compiles some of the dumbest and occasionally profane (you’ve been warned) abuses of the 911 system ever recorded. Danielle Ferland and Andy Paris’ amusing narration will have listeners either howling with laughter or scratching their heads in disbelief. Possibly both. Because this book is based on actual 911 calls, there are occasional profane words in the text. The author replaced these words with dashes, and they are bleeped in this recording.

Now thirty-seven, Julia’s lack of prospects hasn’t dimmed her spirit or her appetite for life. But when Susan asks her to come to France for the summer to persuade her grandmother to allow her to marry, she sets sail with the noblest intentions of acting the paragon of motherhood.
At her mother-in-law’s vacation villa in Haute Savoie, however, Julia sees that her priggish but lovely daughter is completely mismatched with a man much more suited to herself: a charming, clever playboy. The arrival of Susan’s legal guardian, the distinguished Sir William Waring, further complicates the situation.
Soon Julia’s efforts to pass herself off as a lady and secure her daughter’s happiness spin out of control, leading to romantic entanglements and madcap adventures that will challenge preconceived notions about the ultimate compatibility of any two people who fall in love.
