Summary

The Squad that investigated The Great Train Robbery. "e;The Old Grey Fox"e; or "e;One Day Tommy"e; (Detective Chief Superintendent Tommy Butler) selected six of the best officers on the elite Metropolitan Police Flying Squad to investigate the Crime of the Century, but whilst many books have been written by and about every criminal arrested for this crime, NONE have been written about the detectives who traced and tracked them. Tommy Butler delayed his retirement to complete the job, but died a few months after he retired at 57 years of age, the only detective of his rank in the late 1950s and 1960s not to publish an autobiography.**This book provides a detailed account of the men tasked with tracking down the most notorious thieves in British history. It examines the investigation in detail and asks how it would contrast with the methods used today should a similar incident take place.**Geoff Platt examines what happened to these men after the investigation was closed and the effect it had on both their personal and professional lives.

“[An] intellectually dense collection . . . Mabanckou’s challenging perspective on African identity today is as enlightening as it is provocative.” —Publishers Weekly In The Tears of the Black Man, award-winning author Alain Mabanckou explores what it means to be black in the world today. Mabanckou confronts the long and entangled history of Africa, France, and the United States as it has been shaped by slavery, colonialism, and their legacy today. Without ignoring the injustices and prejudice still facing blacks, he distances himself from resentment and victimhood, arguing that focusing too intenselyon the crimes of the past is limiting. Instead, it is time to ask: Now what? Embracing the challenges faced by ethnic minority communities today, The Tears of the Black Man looks to the future, choosing to believe that the history of Africa has yet to be written and seeking a path toward affirmation and reconciliation.Praise for Alain Mabanckou and his works “Mabanckou counts as one of the most successful voices of young African literature.” —Internationales Literaturfestival Berlin “Africa’s Samuel Beckett . . . one of the continent’s greatest living writers.” —The Guardian “One of the most compelling books you’ll read in any language this year.” —Rolling Stone

In 1845 Henry David Thoreau, one of the principal New England Transcendentalists, left the town for the country. Beside the lake of Walden, he built himself a log cabin and returned to nature, to observe and reflect – while surviving on eight dollars a year. From this experience emerged one of the great classics of American literature, a deeply personal reaction against the commercialism and materialism that he saw as the main impulses of mid-nineteenth-century America.

“Being ‘Drunk on Confidence' is not some throw-away phrase for an inspirational Insta caption, it's a lifestyle, a complete shift in perspective that will help you feel empowered and confident every day.”Radio and TV personality, Heidi Anderson was always the girl who wore a cardigan in summer to cover her arms, and board shorts to the beach on the rare occasion she dared to go. She spent years hating herself; silencing her body demons through sex, booze and boys.Heidi knows what it's like to feel alone, to deal with debilitating anxiety daily and to constantly try to please people; pretending to be okay on the outside, while suffering crushing insecurities on the inside. After breaking down on live radio to 300 thousand listeners and making the nerve-racking confession,“I wish I could sit here and tell you that I love myself because that's what people expect me to say, but I can't. I absolutely hate my body”She experienced a life-changing moment. Her gut-wrenching admission forced her to embrace her vulnerabilities, challenge her old beliefs and learn how to say a big fat ‘'Fuck You” to unrealistic beauty standards, and a big ‘'Up Yours' to all diets and society's expectations.Heidi is unapologetically authentic, her memoir is filled with honesty, humour and home-truths. She will show you how she dealt with her inner mean girls that told her she wasn't skinny enough, good enough or simply that other people mattered more than she did. She will inspire you to STOP worrying what other people think and take your power back!‘Heidi Anderson is a straight up legend; she just gets it! She works hard, she's an ideas machine and is a content queen. Heidi is the ultimate hype girl, I know this cause she's been mine since 2013.' TANYA HENNESSY, Comedian, TV amp; Radio Personality

This is a compilation of 3 different titles, which are about the following topics:
1: William Shakespeare is the celebrated script writer of the most popular plays in the English language. By writing both tragedies, romances, and comedies in the 16th century, he made a name for himself and became successful in the art of drama. Shakespeare’s life and decisions led to his acclaim, and in this book, we will lay out some of the most significant changes in both his personal choices and his career. Despite of his financial debts, his complex family life, and his background, he was able to entertain his audiences both in his time and for centuries after his death.
2: Mark Twain is arguably one of the most famous authors in the United States, with his books Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. His characters were a typical and yet deviant episode of the time period in which he lived, depicting the circumstances under which many people lived. The paradox lies in the fact that many people were shocked and impressed by his stories at the same time.
3: Jane Austen is well-known for some famous books, among which the popular “Pride and Prejudice.” As an author in the early 1800s, many people may envision pretty dresses and fancy demeanor, but the reality of her life included some hardships as well that may not be so obvious by reading her novels. In this comprehensive guide, we shed more light on her situation, her road to success, her family life, and the trials she faced in a time when the culture was very different. The roles of men and women, the interaction between parents and children, and the economic situation can be unimaginable for us if we don’t try to expose enough details and paint a detailed picture of that era in history.
