Summary

“Aging is an extraordinary process where you become the person you should have been.” —David Bowie Sixty is the new fifty, seventy’s the new sixty, and older is getting younger every day. With fun, forward-looking, and inspiring quotes, So Who’s Counting is the ideal gift for baby boomers or anyone reaching a major age milestone. Instead of cloying sentimentality or the standard sagging-body-part jokes, it strikes the perfect balance of humor, guidance, reflection, bon mots. Quotes are divided into eight sections, such as “As Old as You Feel,” “Laughter: The Best Prescription,” and “Aged to Perfection.” So Who’s Counting is all about aging with gusto and celebrating what lies ahead.

During the years of 1995-2008 I fought the law (Secondary School Administrators) and the law won. I taught with my heart and not my head. I gave my all but did not know this was not allowed. I was nominated Teacher of the Year Twice. Yet lost it because I was teaching out of my area. I left twice in the middle of the year, well three times because the Law was not doing its job. This is a book I feel every new teacher or even a veteran should read. It is a tale all, no holds barred, except changing the names, locations to protect from any law suits. At first I labeled this “Teaching Black While White” because many districts I worked in were minority based or “At Risk.” Now I must warn my readers; this is a male Caucasian teacher not realizing this game is ruled by the opposite sex. Though most of my enemies were male Principals. I will be able to give you some subtle guides as to what to do and what not to do at any school. This book is dedicated to students every where who are stereo typed as low achievers. Also to teachers or educators who are thinking of giving up; don't give them the satisfaction. Stay in the game! Aside from her father wearing makeup and her mother not feeling well (a lot), Kim Korson's 1970s suburban upbringing was typical. Sometimes she wished that her brother were an arsonist just so that she'd have a valid excuse to be unhappy. And when life moves along pretty decently-she breaks into show business, gets engaged in the secluded jungles of Mexico, and moves her family from Brooklyn to dreamy rural Vermont-the real despondency sets in. It's a skill to find something wrong in just about every situation, but Kim has an exquisite talent for negativity. It is only after half a lifetime of finding kernels of unhappiness where others find joy that she begins to wonder if she is even capable of experiencing happiness. In I Don't Have a Happy Place, Kim Korson untangles what it means to be a true malcontent. Rife with evocative and nostalgic observations, unapologetic realism, and razor-sharp wit, I Don't Have a Happy Place is told in humorous, autobiographical stories. This fresh yet dark voice is sure to make you laugh, nod your head in recognition, and ultimately understand what it truly means to be unhappy. Always.

“Laurie Colwin’s beautiful final book, A Big Storm Knocked It Over, is funny and moving and rich with complicated happiness—a love story for anyone who tends to overthink things, a comic novel about trying to find a place in the world.” — Maile Meloy, author of Both Ways Is the Only Way I Want It
In her fifth and final novel, acclaimed author Laurie Colwin explores marriage and friendship, motherhood and careers, as experienced by a cast of delightfully idiosyncratic Manhattanites. At once a hilarious social commentary and an insightful, sophisticated modern romance, A Big Storm Knocked It Over stands as a living tribute to one of contemporary fiction’s most original and beloved voices.
In her late thirties, Jane Louise Parker has just married a man whose native decency leaves her almost breathless at her good fortune. After the wedding, she returns to work at a small and tony publishing house whose finances are in disarray. Alongside her best friend, Edie, Jane Louise patiently waits to become pregnant, wondering if a baby will provide a sense of rootedness that still seems to elude her. When that longed-for child arrives, it transforms the Parkers’ lives in a way that is as unexpected as it is rapturous.
