Summary

In the mystical kingdom of Windir ...... once lived some twisted guy called Angus Mord. He was a shoemaker by profession, and in his free time he performed all kinds of sorcery. When his fellow citizens got tired of dark rituals and bad shoes, they knocked on his door carrying pitchforks, torches and stakes. To save his life, he made a pact with the ugly demon of madness that in exchange for a few temples and, of course, his soul, enabled him great power and kingdom. Angus Mord thus became the Beautiful Lord, the wizard, the ruler of Windir and the great tyrant against whom the whole company of heroes would have to agree in order to overthrow him from the throne.    Queen Andromache, elf Bjorn, dagger master Jason, witch Taramis, faun Gottfried, wizard Dagonar, dwarf Vonir, tiger man Manfred, dragon Fangorn, gnome Finn and many other heroes will join forces with the young heir to the throne Wilhelm in an epic fight against the pure evil.    From the Bandwoods across the River of Doom, through the Pass of the Bloody Tears, the Valley of the Dreaming Kings and the Misty Wasteland all the way to the Fortress of Crimson Warriors, our heroes will cross swords, halberds and sabers, shoot arrows and cast magic on orcs, trolls, goblins, demons and all sorts of monsters as they reach their final destination - the capital Ul 'Than where they are eagerly awaited by the ruthless Beautiful Lord.   Eric Johansson's novel Kingdom of Hope is a fantastic dedication to the sword and magic genre inspired by Conan, The Lord of the Rings, Narnia, Amber, Greek and Nordic myths…, and is also a wonderful fan homage to the legendary writers such as Robert E. Howard, J.R.R. Tolkien, Poul Anderson and Roger Zelazny.

“Madeleine Gray takes a scalpel to millennial malaise, office romance, and infidelity, and the result is a brainy, gutsy, nervy—and hilarious—wonder of a novel.”—Meg Howrey, author of They're Going to Love You"Simon’s sarcastic delivery captures the emotions of a heroine with the desire to be powerful in a world in which she is powerless. Simon’s narration wavers between the overconfidence of youth and the insecurity of someone who knows she’s in the wrong. This is a perfect audiobook for fans of the show Fleabag." —AudioFile on Green DotAn irresistible and messy love story about the terrible allure of wanting something that promises nothingAt twenty-four, Hera is a clump of unmet potential. To her, the future is nothing but an exhausting thought exercise, one depressing hypothetical after another. She’s sharp in more ways than one, adrift in her own smug malaise, until her new job moderating the comments section of an online news outlet—a role even more mind-numbing than it sounds—introduces her to Arthur, a middle-aged journalist. Though she's preferred women to men for years now, she soon finds herself falling into an all-consuming affair with him. She is coming apart with want and loving every second of it! Well, except for the tiny hiccup that Arthur has a wife—and that she has no idea Hera exists. With its daringly specific and intimate voice, Green Dot is a darkly hilarious and deeply felt examination of the joys and indignities of coming into adulthood against the pitfalls of the twenty-first century and the winding, tortuous, and often very funny journey we take in deciding who we are and who we want to be.A Macmillan Audio production from Henry Holt & Company.

In exposing this shadowy and complex system that dominates our lives, Owen Jones sets out on a journey into the heart of our Establishment, from the lobbies of Westminster to the newsrooms, boardrooms and trading rooms of Fleet Street and the City. Exposing the revolving doors that link these worlds, and the vested interests that bind them together, Jones shows how, in claiming to work on our behalf, the people at the top are doing precisely the opposite. In fact, they represent the biggest threat to our democracy today - and it is time they were challenged.'A book of revelations ... A French food critic faces his mortality in an “entertaining [and] witty” novel by the New York Times–bestselling author of The Elegance of the Hedgehog (Newsday).

In the heart of Paris, in the same posh building made famous in The Elegance of the Hedgehog, Pierre Arthens, the greatest food critic in the world, is dying. Revered by some and reviled by many, Monsieur Arthens has been lording it over the world’s most esteemed chefs for years, passing judgment on their creations, deciding their fates with a stroke of his pen, destroying and building reputations on a whim. But now, during his final hours, his mind has turned to simpler things. He is desperately searching for that singular flavor, that sublime something once sampled, never forgotten, the flavor par excellence. Indeed, this flamboyant and self-absorbed man desires only one thing before he dies: one last taste.

Thus begins a charming voyage that traces the career of Monsieur Arthens from childhood to maturity across a celebration of all manner of culinary delights. Alternating with the voice of the supercilious Arthens is a chorus belonging to his acquaintances and familiars—relatives, lovers, a would-be protégé, even a cat. Each will have his or her say about M. Arthens, a man who has inspired only extreme emotions in people. Here, as in The Elegance of the Hedgehog, Muriel Barbery’s story celebrates life’s simple pleasures and sublime moments while condemning the arrogance and vulgarity of power.
