When her husband is arrested as the suspected predator, a sleep-starved mother must expose the frame and find her missing daughter before the justice system convicts the wrong man.
When a man in a gray hoodie is linked to a string of approaches at Heron Marsh, the town tightens the screws—and Ben Carlson is the man arrested. Ellie believes her husband, but she also finds the hoodie folded in his locked workshop and a typed note demanding $25,000 that promises “proof” if she complies. Within hours a desperate plan becomes a nightmare: a ransom, a missing daughter, and a suspect who escapes custody.
Ellie has no training—only the dogged instincts of a mother and the knowledge that someone has been watching her family. With Detective Reyes and a ragged coalition of friends, she chases digital breadcrumbs, surveillance footage, and a trail that leads to motives no one suspected. Timed, tense, and propulsive, this is a book about how one small deception can snowball into ruin and how far a mother will go to restore the truth.

American Alana Eastwood is researching her family tree. Remarkably, Alana traces her Eastwood lineage to an African child, living at Wortley Hall Manor on England's 1801 census. The boy is known as Otobong.

Alana believes Otobong to be her earliest traceable ancestor and plans to visit her distant relatives still living in Nottingham. Discovering he was connected to a homicide in 1835 sets Alana on a mission to prove his innocence.

Then the body of a man turns up on a beach in Mississippi, eerily close to where Alana's father was born. When the police identify the corpse as her estranged cousin, Sigmund Griegg suspects foul play and gets involved.

From an Arabian stallion shipwrecked off Africa in 1798, to a mysterious death at a posh English estate in 1835, to the Renahta Plantation as President Lincoln signs the Emancipation Proclamation, the international intrigue surrounding Alana's pedigree does not disappoint.

The sleuthing team you've come to love knows murder never gets old . . . motives like revenge, greed, and passion are timeless. As Alana untangles the matters engulfing her family for generations, she comes to appreciate just how much family matters.

Mary is a gas-station attendant with an epileptic son who can barely make ends meet, when she makes them meet at all. She has dreams of a forbidden love but can’t focus on those dreams when she can’t even buy her son’s medicine. She has a real knack for staying calm under pressure, and steadfastly does what she needs to in order to keep food on their table and a roof over their heads. One day she has an encounter with a woman who claims she can change Mary’s life in an instant.
After a strange dream that seems like a sign, Mary meets her mystery woman, who offers her a strange deal. From there, Mary is taken on a whirlwind ride that threatens to crack her reality in two. She’s taken “behind the curtain” into a world she never dreamed could imagine – a world where nightmarish chaos is only kept at bay by a small few – and now they want her to be one of them.
It seems like the opportunity of a lifetime, but will Mary be willing to sacrifice her own values and those she’s trying to teach to her son in order to get them a better life?
