The police find a suicide note in Callie’s jewelry chest and Diane’s whole world, as she had previously known it, falls apart. In the afterlife, Callie meets her great grandma, Ellie, who tells her that she’s in a part of heaven called Summer Wind and can never return home again. She wrestles with her abrupt and impulsive decision to take her own life and witnesses the impact that this event has on all who love her.Diane begins a desperate search for answers by tearing apart Callie’s bedroom looking for anything that might tell her what drove her daughter to suicide. She visits Joy, a spiritual healer, who tells her that she must learn to seek the gift in her experiences rather than remaining addicted to her guilt and pain. Diane struggles with letting go of the daughter she once knew and all her hopes and dreams for the future.Desperate to reassure her mother that she’s okay, Callie attempts to communicate with her from beyond the veil. Scott Hildreth is a married father of six children. He is a bestselling romance author who has published over fifty novels, half of which have been number one bestsellers. His journey to his current existence, however, wasn't an easy one.
At one point, he had it all: a house on the hill, a wife, three children, and a career in construction management. After becoming the focus of an ATF investigation, he was arrested for a crime he didn't commit.
His fight on the U.S. Supreme Court steps ended in a loss, and he went to federal prison. In doing so, he lost his wife, contact with his children, and his home.
After serving his time in prison, he returned to work and reunited with the men in his motorcycle club. Once again on top of the world, but lacking trust in society—and women in general—his only relationship was with his motorcycle.
Three years later, he was jobless, carless, penniless, and holding an eviction notice.
Inspired by a woman he met at a donut shop, he took a chance at a career he had no formal training in—being an author.
Fueled by nothing more than his love for her, he climbed to the top of his industry, and hasn't looked back since.
Lover Come Back is a true—but often unbelievable—tale of loss, sacrifice, second chances, and, ultimately, love. It takes the listener from the courtroom to the lush beaches of Naples, Florida, where Scott and his family currently reside.
The journey is gut-wrenching, comedic, hard to believe, and heartwarming. In the end, it is a love story that will leave you believing in second chances and first loves.
    Contains mature themes.

On a sunny May morning in 1998 in Cortez, Colorado, three desperados in a stolen truck opened fire on the town cop, shooting him twenty times; then they blasted their way past dozens of police cars and disappeared into 10,000 square miles of the harshest wilderness terrain on the North American continent. Self-trained survivalists, the outlaws eluded the most sophisticated law enforcement technology on the planet and a pursuit force that represented more than seventy-five local, state, and federal police agencies with dozens of swat teams, U.S. Army Special Forces, and more than five hundred officers from across the country. This is the first in-depth account of this sensational case, replete with overbearing local sheriffs, Native American trackers, posses on horseback, suspicion of vigilante justice and police cover-ups, and the blunders of the nation's most exalted crime-fighters pursuing outlaws into territory in which only they could survive.

The true story of a triple murder that shocked a New York community and drew the interest of famed criminal defense attorney F. Lee Bailey.   Twenty-seven-year-old Peter Egan, his wife Barbara Ann, and Peter’s younger brother Gerald were familiar to Watertown, New York, authorities long before December 31, 1964. The police suspected the brazen trio in a long string of burglaries and petty crimes. They were also under investigation by the FBI for grand theft auto. But on that New Year's night, the Egan family’s criminal career came to a violent end. All three were found with a bullet to the head at a rest stop off Interstate 81.   The gruesome killings puzzled local and state police. Was it a random murder? A confrontation gone awry? Or a premeditated act of retribution by hardened criminals who feared the Egans would turn state's witness? Then, a surprise arrest was made. But when F. Lee Bailey, lawyer for the self-confessed Boston Strangler, entered the fray, the case took an unexpected twist that shrouded the murders in mystery to this day.

A celebration of the life of the acclaimed comic book storyteller through his work as well as interviews with fellow creators.

Will Eisner (1917–2005) is universally considered the master of comics storytelling, best known for The Spirit, his iconic newspaper comic strip, and A Contract With God, the first significant graphic novel. This seminal work from 1978 ushered in a new era of personal stories in comics form that touched every adult topic from mortality to religion and sexuality, forever changing the way writers and artists approached comics storytelling. Noted historian Paul Levitz celebrates Eisner by showcasing his most famous work alongside unpublished and rare materials from the family archives. Also included are original interviews with creators such as Jules Feiffer, Art Spiegelman, Scott McCloud, Jeff Smith, Denis Kitchen, and Neil Gaiman—all of whom knew Eisner and were inspired by his work to create their own graphic novels for a new generation of readers.

NOTE: The cover is a high-quality photographic reproduction of Eisner's original art. The design intentionally reveals tape and other stray markings that are part of the artist's process and reflect the age of the artifact that was photographed.

“Eisner was not only ahead of his times; the present times are still catching up to him,” —John Updike

“What Will did was and is timeless,” —Neil Gaiman

“Will Eisner is, and remains, one of my precious idols,” —Frank Miller

"He was the greatest,” —Harvey Kurtzman

“Will Eisner is a national treasure,” —Jules Feiffer

“Eisner is the single person most responsible for giving comics its brains,” —Alan Moore

“Eisner was unique in feeling from the start that comic books were not necessarily this despised, bastard, crappy, lowbrow kind of art form, and that there was a potential for real art,” —Michael Chabon

In Foundations, Karin Speedy takes us on a whirlwind journey through time and space as she navigates intersecting personal, local, family and global histories, stories that help her reckon with who she is and where she stands in this complicated (post)colonial world. If colonialism, slavery, violence and heartbreak feature heavily in her memoir so too do friendship, love, poetry, books, music, laughter and resistance. Warm, funny, quirky yet also confronting and, at times, shockingly brutal, her childhood and young adult memories bring to life the scenes and sounds of 70s, 80s and 90s New Zealand. At university, Karin's unquenchable thirst for knowledge and social justice see her embark on her first research project, a decolonial study of Louisiana Creole, research that cements her future as an anti-racist, activist scholar. Forever questioning the master narratives, digging deeper and peeling back layers to expose what lies hidden beneath and behind, Karin reminds us that history and trauma are all around us, ingrained in our lives, etched into our landscapes and at the very foundations of our cities and infrastructure. When she begins to examine her own family stories, rooted in colonisation and working-class struggle and embedded in the national histories of Aotearoa and Australia, she uncovers astonishing inter-generational palimpsests and starts to grasp the importance of listening to her ghosts.
    About the Author
Karin Speedy is an interdisciplinary academic whose research weaves together her expertise in history, literature, linguistics and translation. She has published extensively on colonial and decolonial Pacific and Francophone history and literature, as well as on Creole languages, slavery and African and Indian Ocean diasporas in the Pacific. In 2013, she was awarded the John Dunmore Medal for research, recognising her major contribution to knowledge of French language and culture in the Pacific.
