Summary

This account, as modest and undemonstrative as Carson's feats were remarkable, covers his life as a trapper, Indian fighter, guide, and buffalo hunter up to the fall of 1856. Among the high spots during these years were his trapping expedition to California with Ewing Young, his celebrated duel with Shunar at the Green River rendezvous of 1837, the three expeditions with John C. Frémont, his exploits in the Mexican War, and his service as an Indian agent.

Ideal for fans of the Mark of a Lion series and Bill ParcellsPro football chronicle of the New York JetsCovers the successes and losses of the JetsFor over 55 seasons, the New York Jets have not enjoyed large doses of pride and glory. Yes, Joe Namath led them to a stunning Super Bowl III upset victory in 1968. But since then, the Jets have gone back and forth between maddening and entertaining, bumbling and embarrassing, and constantly teasing their fierce fan base. At this point, rather sadistically, the rollercoaster of rooting for the Jets has become a way of life. In Tales from the New York Jets Sideline, author Mark Cannizzaro brings his readers on a journey. Readers and author travel through Cannizzaro’s eyes and the eyes of the subjects he has covered, throughout the maze of musings, controversial coincidences, and the occasional brilliance that the Jets have displayed during the years the author has followed the franchise. This includes their consecutive AFC Championship Game losses in 2009 and 2010 and the following struggles, adding to the former angst and teases Jets fans have felt since Joe Willie’s memorable triumph. Arnold Palmer taught world-class pro golf instructor Brad Brewer how to play golf. But that was just the beginning. For more than 30 years, Palmer taught Brad how to live. As a businessman, a father, a celebrity, a philanthropist, and a friend, Palmer showed those around him that true success has nothing to do with the final score - and everything to do with how you play the game.
In Arnold Palmer's Success Lessons, Brad shares the life-changing truths he learned from the King of Golf throughout three decades of knowing Palmer as a business partner, employer, and mentor. In short but powerful chapters, Brad passes on Palmer's secrets such as:
Why you always need to play for the love of the game
What your starting point tells you about your destination
How to capitalize on past success
The attitude of a true champion
Why golf is like all the best things in life - it's more complicated than it looks
Taking us from Palmer's childhood to his last years back in his own hometown, Brad introduces us to the Arnold Palmer behind the trophies, the celebrity, and the fame. This was the man who changed lives simply by living well, a man loved and respected not only for what he did but for who he was.

Val James became the first African American player in the NHL when he took to the ice with the Buffalo Sabres in 1982, and in 1987 he became the first black player of any nationality to skate for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Born in central Florida, James grew up on Long Island and received his first pair of skates for his 13th birthday. At 16, James left home to play in Canada, where he was the only black person in junior and, often, in the whole town. While popular for his tough play and winning personality, the teenager faced racist taunts at opposing arenas, and the prejudice continued at all levels of the game. In his two NHL stints, James defined himself as a smart team player and opponent, known for his pugilistic skills.
Black Ice is the untold story of a trail-blazing athlete who endured and overcame discrimination to realize his dreams and become an inspiration for future generations.
