Summary

Adrift on a wreckage in the southern seas, a traveler is rescued by a colossal, phantom ship manned by a crew of ancient, unseeing sailors. As the vessel hurls toward the South Pole, the narrator chronicles a journey into a realm of ice and darkness. The tale captures the sublime terror of the unknown and the inevitability of a doomed destiny. It stands as a chilling testament to the allure of the ultimate discovery, even at the cost of existence.

The British Army at the end of the nineteenth century was not a fair place. Despite the reforms, a bad officer could still ruin men’s lives and Jack Roberts discovers that despite being a hero of Rorke’s Drift, that means nothing when a superior has influence. He becomes a soldier serving in the Egyptian campaign where he learns not only new skills but how to deal with the new responsibility fatherhood brings.

Throughout it all one thing is constant, he is a soldier of the queen, a redcoat with a rifle.

The Russian novel has a reputation that is immense, both in narrative and in length. Unquestionably though the ideas, themes and characters make many novels rightly revered as world class, as icons of literature.

Perhaps an easier way to enjoy a wider selection of the Russian heritage, with its varied and glorious literary talents, is with the short story. These gems sparkle and beguile the mind with their characters and narrative, exploring facets of society and the human condition that more Western authors somehow find more difficult to navigate, or to explore, explain and relate to.

The Russian short story is, in many respects, in a genre of its own. It is at its captivating best whether it’s an exploration of real-life experiences, through fantasy and fables and on to total absurdity.

In a land so vast it is unsurprising that it is a world almost unto itself. Cultures and landscapes of differing hues are packed together bound only by the wilful bonds and force of Empire.

The stories in this collection traverse the decades where one might be a serf under an absolute monarch, and the reality of that was pretty near to slavery, into an emancipation of sorts in the fields, or towns under the despotic will of landowners and the rich into the upheavals of Empire and then the overthrow of the ruling class and its replacement by the communists, who promised equality for all and delivered a society where the down-trodden remained the lowest yet vital cog of the state machine and its will.

Whilst Tolstoy, Gogol, Dostoevsky, Pushkin and Chekhov are a given in any Russian collection we also explore and include Andreyev, Korolenko, Turgenev, Blavatsky and many others to create a world rich and dense across a sprawling landscape of diverse people, riddled with the class and unfairness in perhaps some of the most turbulent times that Russia has ever experienced.

In 1972, Dr. Rose Hemmings has just finished her general surgery residency when a haunted stranger is shot in front of her in a New York City bar, and their lives become forever intertwined. And when, having been given the blessing of her adoptive father on his deathbed, Rose travels to prerevolutionary Iran to discover the past her American family kept secret from her, she finds a true Pandora’s box. It is a world both foreign and familiar, in which her primary place is as the heiress to a great tribe. In Iran, Rose will find family she never dreamed of, her own people, and a man who loves her as passionately as he does the rare black roses of his garden. She will return to the United States carrying a new secret and torn between two men: the one she loves helplessly, and the one who loves her unconditionally.
Woven throughout with Persian poetry ancient and modern, On Loving is the story of one woman’s lifetime of love and loss, of societal change in a nomadic people, and of overcoming personal challenges, including mental and physical health, to find true contentment. Above all, it is a story of love: its physiology, psychology and philosophy; the many forms it takes; its myths and truths; its challenges, its joys and its gifts.

Romance has always been a genre filled with deep emotions, grand gestures, and heartwarming endings. But what happens when you mix it with humour, sarcasm, and a few scandalous encounters? You get a story that doesn’t just make your heart flutter—it makes you laugh, blush, and root for two people who are so wrong for each other that they might just be perfect together.
This book is for every reader who believes love isn’t just candlelit dinners and whispered sweet nothings. Love is accidentally sending an embarrassing drunk text. Love is tripping on your own shoelaces while trying to look sexy. Love is messy, awkward, infuriating, but ultimately, unforgettable.
I hope you enjoy this rollercoaster ride of laughter, love, and undeniable chemistry as much as I enjoyed writing it.

    Have Spaceship–Will Travel
In the wake of the Modronovich Incident a new era of industry and interstellar exploration has begun. Everyone wants to find 'them' ... the aliens ... even if the cosmic trail is two-hundred and fifty years old, and finding them might be a bad idea.
After the initial whirlwind of movie offers and government interviews, Bea has settled down to the quieter life as Spaulding Recovery Service's simple starship pilot, enjoying her time between the sandy beaches of the Pearls, and long trips into the long dark hauling cargo or tracking down derelict ships for almighty insurance companies. That is until she gets a call from Algernon, the Asimov Institute's synthetic consciousness. It seems the famed Institute has lost a ship, and since everyone else is hunting aliens, Bea's the woman for the job.
It's good money, and her toff boss says do it ... but something's not right. Why does the Institute seem more concerned with a star outside of the Republic's borders than they do about the lost ship and her crew? And why does the staff they send with her act like soldiers out of uniform?
