Summary

ABOUT THE BOOK -

This book seeks to evaluate the innovativeness of United Airlines. In addition, it seeks to enhance the current appreciation of the extant state of United Airlines' innovation capabilities along with growth in a comprehensive way.

The first section makes out how IT technology is used innovatively in the airline's services, operations, and products.

The second section entails an analysis of the airline's innovative capacity regarding the use, adoption, and generation of innovation. The United Airlines has a culture defined by openness to innovation. In recent times, it has welcomed innovative ideas on cost-reduction to improve its profitability, differentiation, precise fuel hedging, workforce cutback, closure of United Express, and abolition of employee's pension plan.

The third section entails an analysis of the airline's innovative technologies landscape. It is vital for United Airlines to use technological tools to determine how it may reduce its operational costs. The tools include big data analytics.

The fourth section helps linking people, products, and operations along with services and IT on one hand with growth and competitive edge on the other hand via a technology roadmap. A technology roadmap defines the short-term and long-term goals of a certain technology solution that helps in attaining the goals.

The last section entails the development of prospective cases of IT innovation deployment. There are various opportunities for relating to big data innovations for United Airlines in the days ahead. Even then, the continued big data innovation by the airline will predispose it to various challenges.

No one could have invented John Beames, whose vibrant and original memoirs were discovered by chance in an attic almost a century after they were penned. He arrived in Indian in 1858, and worked there as a civil servant for the next forty-five years, defending powerless peasants against rapacious planters, improvising fifteen-gun salutes for visiting dignitaries and presiding over the blissful coast of Orissa. His acquaintances spanned from lofty Rajas to dissolute Englishmen. Vivid, candid and without fear of authority, Beames was a defiant individual in a huge bureaucracy. He writes with the richness of Dickens.

Nowhere in Ireland is there such a rich diversity of walks as Killarney. Thousands visit every year to walk in the beautiful landscape for which Killarney is renowned, and until now there has been no guidebook for these walks. Jim Ryan has compiled eighteen of Killarney's most interesting low level walks, providing excellent photographs, precise directions and the length, time and level of difficulty of each. Each walk has a map indicating the important features. Walks vary in duration from an hour to a day, from fl at walking to more challenging rambles. Jim takes readers through the town of Killarney, out to Muckross and Torc, down to Ross Island, and on peaceful strolls in the countryside. One walk includes a boat trip through Killarney's lakes. Woven into the route descriptions are historical notes, anecdotes, folklore and natural history to add to the walker's enjoyment. This is a book to be used and reused, for the visitor to Killarney, having savoured its beauty, invariably returns. • Clear concise full-colour presentation in an easy-to-use, practical format • Author's enthusiasm and knowledge lends authority to commentaries and route selection. • Also by Jim Ryan: Carrauntoohil & MacGillycuddy's Reeks – A Walking Guide •

When the struggle to save oil-soaked birds and restore blackened beaches left him feeling frustrated and helpless, John Francis decided to take a more fundamental and personal stand: he stopped using all forms of motorized transportation. Soon after embarking on this quest that would span two decades and two continents, the young man took a vow of silence that endured for seventeen years. It began as a silent environmental protest, but as a young African-American man, walking across the country in the early 1970s, his idea of "the environment" expanded beyond concern about pollution and loss of habitat to include how we humans treat each other and how we can better communicate and work together to benefit the earth. Through his silence and walking, he learned to listen and, along the way, earned college and graduate degrees in science and environmental studies. The United Nations appointed him goodwill ambassador to the world's grassroots communities and the U.S. government recruited him to help address the Exxon Valdez disaster. Was he crazy? How did he live and earn all those degrees without talking? An amazing human-interest story with a vital message, Planetwalker is also a deeply personal and engaging coming-of-age odyssey.

Founded to serve as the capital of France's vast overseas empire, New Orleans has gone on to survive wars, invasions, floods, hurricanes, plagues, fires, and financial panics. Today it is a romantic city of secret gardens, handsomely restored mansions, murmuring fountains, legendary ghosts, Creole cuisine, and hot jazz. Both sin and saintliness, high-life and low, flourish under tropical skies; and its centuries-long flirtations with disaster have given its people a reckless, pleasure-loving philosophy that is acted out in its streets and squares, courtyards and terraces.New Orleans's colorful atmosphere and strange history are magnificently captured in this handsome volume-a tour not only of the famous sights but also of the many places tourists seldom see. Here, too, are the stories of the heroes and the villains, great ladies and prostitutes, who have inhabited the city's curiously ornamented buildings-and of the phantoms that haunt those buildings still. The text is illustrated by superb photographs reproducing all of New Orleans beauty, from the serenity of the surrounding plantations and bayous to the French Quarter, the riverfront, the celebrated restaurants, and the mad excitement of Mardi Gras. Romantic New Orleans is a portrait of a unique city, drenched in history, which seems miraculously to have returned from the whirlpool of time.
