Summary

It doesn't take too much living before we realize that life never goes quite the way we want it to. But when things get hard and we don't understand what God is doing, what is our first impulse? Is it to resist him and run away like Jonah? Or is it to trust him even while trembling in fear of suffering like Habbakuk? In this powerful exploration of God's often mysterious and counterintuitive ways, Dr. Larry Crabb challenges readers to seize the opportunities for growth and maturity that come our way when we experience troubles and failures. Rather than pushing back against adversity, he invites us to look closer at what God is doing in our lives when it feels like he is far from us. Unpacking the stories of two very different prophets, Crabb lights the way to a life of resting in the goodness of a God who is always working out his plan for our lives.

    Richard Rorty, Gianni Vattimo

Though coming from different and distinct intellectual traditions, Richard Rorty and Gianni Vattimo are united in their criticism of the metaphysical tradition. The challenges they put forward extend beyond philosophy and entail a reconsideration of the foundations of belief in God and the religious life. They urge that the rejection of metaphysical truth does not necessitate the death of religion; instead it opens new ways of imagining what it is to be religious—ways that emphasize charity, solidarity, and irony. This unique collaboration, which includes a dialogue between the two philosophers, is notable not only for its fusion of pragmatism (Rorty) and hermeneutics (Vattimo) but also for its recognition of the limits of both traditional religious belief and modern secularism.
In "Anticlericalism and Atheism" Rorty discusses Vattimo's work Belief and argues that the end of metaphysics paves the way for an anti-essentialist religion. Rorty's conception of religion, determined by private motives, is designed to produce the gospel's promise that henceforth God will not consider humanity as a servant but as a friend. In "The Age of Interpretation," Vattimo, who is both a devout Catholic and a frequent critic of the church, explores the surprising congruence between Christianity and hermeneutics in light of the dissolution of metaphysical truth. As in hermeneutics, interpretation is central to Christianity, which introduced the world to the principle of interiority, dissolving the experience of objective reality into "listening to and interpreting messages."
The lively dialogue that concludes this volume, moderated and edited by Santiago Zabala, analyzes the future of religion together with the political, social, and historical aspects that characterize our contemporary postmodern, postmetaphysical, and post-Christian world.

Old Testament and New Testament Bible study guides are important to consult while engaging in serious Biblical studies because the modern Bible translations are all derived from three main ancient languages. These languages are Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic. Virtually every word in the Bible, its pronunciation, and its original meaning is contested by scholars engaged in finding the original meanings behind Biblical verses. It is very important to have a complete study guide which alerts students to phrases and terms in the Bible that are derived from these ancient languages.

What is meditation? In this book we will try to explain the answer to this question. By reading through our 33 mediation tips, you will gain a better understanding of how to find your inner self. Along the way, you can follow our instructions on various ways to enter a state of meditation.
Whilst meditation may look as though you are doing nothing, you are actually performing a very difficult art that takes plenty of focus, concentration, determination, and persistence. Meditation takes practice, just as in any other sports, such as swimming. You will need to learn how to do it and the better you get, the more fulfilling is the reward. Do not confuse meditation with religion. It is about the spiritual aspect of your inner being, even though some practices talk about the Divine. However, it is an art that you can use for yourself, so you are a better person and will be at peace with your inner self. In reality, we are all alone in the vastness of the universe or multiverses, within the darkness and the light. Step forward and be a strong individual, by learning techniques that will make you unafraid of anything. Meditation is being at peace with your inner self, and therefore at peace with your environment.
In this book we will try to explain these techniques, practices, and ideas that are related to meditation:
    -Breathing techniques
-Exercise techniques, such as yoga and Tai Chi
    -Group Mediation
    -Simple stretching and relaxation techniques

A Riveting Look at the Orphan Train from Historical Novelist Jody HedlundWhen a financial crisis in 1850s New York leaves three orphaned sisters nearly destitute, the oldest, Elise Neumann, knows she must take action. She's had experience as a seamstress, and the New York Children's Aid Society has established a special service: placing out seamstresses and trade girls. Even though Elise doesn't want to leave her sisters for a job in Illinois, she realizes this may be their last chance. The son of one of New York City's wealthiest entrepreneurs, Thornton Quincy faces a dilemma. His father is dying, and in order to decide which of his sons will inherit everything, he is requiring them to do two things in six months: build a sustainable town along the Illinois Central Railroad, and get married. Thornton is tired of standing in his twin brother's shadow and is determined to win his father's challenge. He doesn't plan on meeting a feisty young woman on his way west, though.
