Summary

The current book piece is an initial step in the marvellous feat of the cryptographic area. This is a precise concordance of renowned algorithms, with a focus on those which are assumed to be practically valuable for security purposes. It confers the significant cryptographic tools that an individual requires for securing a system in a systematic manner. In detailing the fast pacing domain, the author has accomplished an incredible documentation in affording a comprehensive up-to-date information about cryptographic schemes and crypto cracking. Topics encompassed range from basic level considerations like random number generation to high-level topics such as encryption algorithms like AES. This volume’s exceptional style and organization make it indispensable as a desk reference and self-contained guide. Certainly, several chapters like Cryptography and Fundamentals, Secret Key Encryption, Public-Key Encryption, Hashing, Authentication, Digital Certificates, and Crypto Cracking interrupt fresh ground in their distinct presentations and informative content. In the subtle distinction between exhaustive conduct and comprehensive reporting of each item, the author has selected to pen down directly and simply, thereby optimally permitting different components to be elucidated with their significant information, pictorial representation, and tabulations. While instigated by the practical applications, the author has inscribed a book that will be fascinating to students and researchers by being inclusive of sufficient discussions about theoretical considerations. Vital mathematical formulations and illustrative coding are clearly and crisply presented. The book will completely serve as a guide for various security professionals, malware analysts, and security architects to discover their relevant needs to achieve appropriate security updates for smart devices through the employment of cryptographic algorithms.

A detailed account of Germany’s groundbreaking Operation Weserübung, the first three dimensional—land, sea, air—strategic invasion in history.   The German invasion of Denmark and Norway in April 1940 brought a sudden and shocking end to the “Phoney War” in the West. In a single day, multiple seaborne and airborne landings established German forces ashore in Norway, overwhelming the unprepared Norwegian forces and catching the Allied Powers completely by surprise. Their belated response was ill-thought-out and badly organized, and by June 9 all resistance had formally ended.   The strategic importance of Scandinavian iron ore, shipped through the port of Narvik to Germany, was the main cause of the campaign. The authors show how Allied attempts to interdict these supplies provoked German plans to secure them, and also how political developments in the inter-war years resulted in both Denmark and Norway being unable to deter threats to their neutrality despite having done so successfully in the First World War. The German attack was their first “joint” air, sea, and land operation, making large-scale use of air-landing and parachute forces, and the Luftwaffe’s control of the air throughout the campaign would prove decisive. Although costly, particularly for the Kriegsmarine, it was a triumph of good planning, improvisation and aggressive, determined action by the troops on the ground.   Making full use of Norwegian, Danish, and German sources, this book is a full and fascinating account of this highly significant campaign and its aftermath both for the course of the Second World War and the post-war history of the two countries conquered with such unprecedented speed.

“An essential book” on PTSD, an all-too-common condition in both military veterans and civilians (The New York Times Book Review).   Post-traumatic stress disorder afflicts as many as 30 percent of those who have experienced twenty-first-century combat—but it is not confined to soldiers. Countless ordinary Americans also suffer from PTSD, following incidences of abuse, crime, natural disasters, accidents, or other trauma—yet in many cases their symptoms are still shrouded in mystery, secrecy, and shame.   This “compulsively readable” study takes an in-depth look at the subject (Los Angeles Times). Written by a war correspondent and former Marine with firsthand experience of this disorder, and drawing on interviews with individuals living with PTSD, it forays into the scientific, literary, and cultural history of the illness. Using a rich blend of reporting and memoir, The Evil Hours is a moving work that will speak not only to those with the condition and to their loved ones, but also to all of us struggling to make sense of an anxious and uncertain time.

In this Very Short Introduction, Warwick Vincent outlines the essential features of lake environments and their biology, offering an up-to-date view of lake ecosystems.Vincent traces the origins of lake science (limnology) from the seminal work of Francois Forel on Lake Geneva at the edge of the Swiss Alps, to modern approaches such as environmental sensors, satellite observations, stable isotope analysis, and DNA-based technologies which are used to probe the microbial life support systems that lead from sunlight to fish.Drawing on varied case studies he considers the intimate relationship between humans and lakes, the value of lakes as indicators of environmental change, the impact of pollution, and our urgent need to improve the protection and management of these vitally important living resources via an integrated understanding of their ecology.
