Summary

A “suspenseful . . . welcome debut” mystery set in New Orleans (The Washington Post Book World).   When a disturbing series of murder-suicides terrorizes the Big Easy, young NOPD criminal psychologist Kit Franklyn is eager to take the case and prove her mettle. She discovers some bizarre connections between the perpetrators: They all share the same blood type, drive old cars, and reportedly hummed a nursery rhyme before committing their grisly acts.   As she uncovers the scope of the crimes, Franklyn turns to Andy Broussard, the chief medical examiner whose love of the truth is matched only by his love of New Orleans cuisine. Together, they follow a dangerous trail that leads into the Crescent City’s dark past, and an old Cajun curse that seems to have returned with a vengeance. Now Broussard and Franklyn need to fight off some very bad juju, or their partnership may end before it begins.   This first mystery featuring Broussard and Franklyn is a “fast-paced thriller” that “won’t be easily put down” (The Commercial Appeal, Memphis).

Recollecting school escapades, ridding a house of lust, a practical joke misfiring, dealing with a boy’s swearing, a talking dog, a woman’s take on the Odysseus legend, dogged self-centredness, a suspect solution to the world’s problems, bizarre seductions, an afterlife wish granted, a jinxed lover pursuing his beloved… These are some of the themes of the seventeen humorous short stories in Pursuit involving a variety of comic expressions: situational, satirical, burlesque and even the ridiculous. While the impact of humour in the stories is largely attributable to incongruity, or some departure from the ‘normal’, the stories have more than just entertainment value. They make telling and sometimes poignant observations about the nature of the human condition.

A lighthearted parody of Eric Carle's much-loved classic The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Very Hungry Pregnant Lady tackles the mysteries faced by pregnant women everywhere—namely, how can I have so little space for my stomach and yet be hungry all the time? And is it better to try unsuccessfully to sleep, or just give in and have another snack? Pairing playful text with bright, colorful images, The Very Hungry Pregnant Lady is both a send-up and a celebration of this strange, ridiculous, and exciting time in the lives of all mothers-to-be.

    New York Times Bestseller
A collection of essays spanning politics, criticism, and feminism from one of the most-watched young cultural observers of her generation, Roxane Gay.
“Pink is my favorite color. I used to say my favorite color was black to be cool, but it is pink—all shades of pink. If I have an accessory, it is probably pink. I read Vogue, and I’m not doing it ironically, though it might seem that way. I once live-tweeted the September issue.”
In these funny and insightful essays, Roxane Gay takes us through the journey of her evolution as a woman (Sweet Valley High) of color (The Help) while also taking readers on a ride through culture of the last few years (Girls, Django in Chains) and commenting on the state of feminism today (abortion, Chris Brown). The portrait that emerges is not only one of an incredibly insightful woman continually growing to understand herself and our society, but also one of our culture.
Bad Feminist is a sharp, funny, and spot-on look at the ways in which the culture we consume becomes who we are, and an inspiring call-to-arms of all the ways we still need to do better.

In the mysterious high deserts of New Mexico, the Indian shamans know the secret of the coyote transformation, allowing mortals to shape-shift into shadow coyotes, the better to bring down their prey. Now Katt Hall, a transplanted Southern beauty sexually frustrated by an unwilling and alcoholic husband, has gained those secrets, and her passions are about to lead her into trouble with the law. A riotously funny take on marital frustration, culminating in an unforgettably wild Indian Festival of the Coyote.
