The last two, "Listening" and "Modes of Speaking and the Path of Inquiry," appeared in Actos de Lenguaje, Vol. I (J.C. Sáez, Editor, 2007).
  
  On Learning was originally published to provide supplementary material to students in training programs aimed at teachers and educational administrators, but they contain contributions to the field of teaching and learning that are relevant to a broader audience. For this reason the publisher has chosen to make it more widely available, in English.
  
  While this book may be read easily without any previous understanding of Rafael Echeverría's proposals, readers may be drawn to explore his wider body of work, much of which has been published in Spanish by our publishing house and is now becoming available in English.
