Summary

Millions of basketball players outside the United States dream of one day playing in the NBA. Thousands of those youngsters make their way onto the radars of NBA scouts patrolling the globe on the lookout for the next Drazen Petrovic, Arvydas Sabonis, Pau Gasol, Tony Parker, Dirk Nowitzki or Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Those talent observers criss-cross Europe and the rest of the world and watch prospects playing at both club and national team competitions - and that both at the youth and senior levels.
"Draft Dreams In The Making" is a compilation of articles written by David Hein about many of the international players who have shined at one or more of those competitions and have either declared themselves for the 2020 NBA Draft or are automatically eligible - those 1998-born players.
The articles in this book were published on the websites for the events where the players were competing - be it FIBA, Euroleague Basketball and Basketball Champions League events.
Not all international players who are in the 2020 draft pool are included in this book - solely those about whom an article was written.
Hopefuly you enjoy this book as much as the author did writing the articles in it.

Jerry Grayson is an ordinary man who chose an extraordinary career. At age 17 he became the youngest helicopter pilot to ever serve in the Royal Navy. By age 25 he was the most decorated peacetime naval pilot in history.

For the Navy's Search and Rescue pilots, getting to work is both an adventure and an ordeal. Whether rescuing a wounded fighter pilot who has ditched in the sea, saving desperate survivors from a sinking ship, or picking up a grievously ill crewman from the deck of a nuclear-armed submarine that is playing a cat-and-mouse game with the Soviet navy, Jerry Grayson has lived a life of unparalleled excitement and adventure.

His finest hour came during the infamous Fastnet Yacht Race of 1979 in which 25 yachts were lost. When a catastrophic storm enveloped the competitors he and his crew pushed their Wessex helicopter to its absolute limits and put their own lives at risk, flying into hurricane-force winds to winch shipwrecked sailors from heaving tempestuous seas. An investiture at Buckingham Palace with Her Majesty the Queen was the result.

Being a Rescue Pilot is a fast-paced career because there is no choice. Lives are at stake and pilots must move and think fast. Jerry Grayson's inside view of this heroic service is as inspirational as it is celebratory. Excitingly told, frequently funny but also very poignant, Jerry's story is not an account of just one man's deeds, it is a salute to all the men and women he worked with who were able to turn tragedies into triumphs.

Includes a Foreword by HRH The Duke of York, Prince Andrew, Commodore-in-Chief of the Fleet Air Arm.

A rookie outsider chases his sports-obsessed dream to relive his football glory days in “the ultimate fan book” (The New York Times).   Bob Cowser, Jr. is a happy husband, father, and English professor in upstate New York. Only one thing is missing: the exhilaration he felt as a young man in sports-crazy Tennessee when he took the field for high school football games. In what is every Monday morning quarterback’s fantasy, Bob joins the Watertown Red & Black, the country’s oldest semi-professional football team, hungry to win its first championship in two decades. Over the next five months, and with the hesitant blessing of his wife, Candace, Cowser drives the lonely sixty miles for try-outs in a former mill town of soldiers, corrections officers, and blue-collar workers.   A far cry from his leafy campus, the “Professor,” as his teammates call him, must work hard to earn the respect of these hard-edged men—some of them local celebrities—and the confidence of his coach, a former mill worker who has never used a playbook. Balancing the demands of family and academe with the rigors of practice and game play, Cowser must find a way to fit his childhood dream into his real life as an adult.   “Deserv[ing] to join the ranks of great football books like George Plimpton’s Paper Lion, Frederick Exley’s A Fan’s Notes, and William Morris’s The Courting of Marcus Dupree” (Publishers Weekly), Dream Season invites us onto the line of scrimmage for each heartbreaking loss and breathtaking win, into the locker room of a fabled team challenged by a roller-coaster season, and ultimately into the heart of a man with a persevering thirst for glory. “Real, vivid, sensitive, accessible, warm, brutal, and wholly consuming,” this remarkable story reminds us why we love the games we play (Lee Gutkind, author of Forever Fat: Essays by the Godfather).

The Sky Sports commentator and former Kent captain “show[s] his great cricketing brain and insight into those that play it and the game itself” (Royal Ascot Cricket Club).

EX-England batsman Rob Key is one of the wittiest pundits on TV. Whether it’s a drizzly day-nighter in Derby or a World Cup Final at Lord’s, Key’s wizardry with the mic more than matches that which he had with the bat.

In his new book, Key reflects on the past and present of an ever-unforgiving game, in so doing shining light into the darkest recesses of the locker room. What he finds there is as amusing as it is shocking, as farcical as it is fascinating.

Known as one of the sharpest cricket brains around, Key casts a knowledgeable and sometimes acerbic eye over such areas as fitness, captaincy, and sledging, while delivering a close-up view of some of the biggest names in the game.

More than anything, Key reveals just what it is to be a professional cricketer, the camaraderie, the comedy, and, of course, the calamity.

“Key has produced a book which reflects his personality and career beautifully, a lovely gentle jaunt through the career of a likeable honest player, a player who probably deserved more chance at the highest level, but with storytelling like this, it is easy to see why his broadcasting career has blossomed and taken him now to the highest level of his new chosen career.” —Deep Extra Cover
