    Importance of the Book
    1.        Education has become a determining factor for everyone to scale up the ladder of success. Therefore everyone has an inherent desire to do well or rather excel in studies. Students involved with studies as well as their parents, teachers and other well-wishers will want a student to excel in studies. However, only a few students excel in studies, whereas the majority perform average or even poor. Elders and peers can motivate a student and the teachers can teach the subject content. Still, the mechanics of "How to study" is the gap that most students cannot bridge. The students who understand the mechanics of how to study are the ones who constantly excel in their studies. This book will bring out the finer details about the mechanics of "How to Study". The systematic method to excel in studies advocated in this book will cover all the aspects right from the beginning when the student gets to know that he is affected for a course until the final day of the final examinations.
     Who should buy this book?
     2.        This book will be immensely valuable for students with a basic developed understanding capability, i.e. the age group starting twelve years of age. It will serve well even the students enrolling for professional courses or even competitive examinations. The parents of young students who want their kids to excel in studies will also be hugely benefitted from this book. Apart from them, the teachers at various academic institutions would also find this book insightful and quite helpful in training their students in the art of systematic learning methodologies.

  • Into the Gray Zone - A Neuroscientist Explores the Mysteries of the Brain and the Border Between Life and Death - cover

Into the Gray Zone - A...

    Adrian Owen

In this “riveting read, meshing memoir with scientific explication” (Nature), a world-renowned neuroscientist reveals how he learned to communicate with patients in vegetative or “gray zone” states and, more importantly, he explains what those interactions tell us about the working of our own brains.“Vivid, emotional, and thought-provoking” (Publishers Weekly), Into the Gray Zone takes readers to the edge of a dazzling, humbling frontier in our understanding of the brain: the so-called “gray zone” between full consciousness and brain death. People in this middle place have sustained traumatic brain injuries or are the victims of stroke or degenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Many are oblivious to the outside world, and their doctors believe they are incapable of thought. But a sizeable number—as many as twenty percent—are experiencing something different: intact minds adrift deep within damaged brains and bodies. An expert in the field, Adrian Owen led a team that, in 2006, discovered this lost population and made medical history. Scientists, physicians, and philosophers have only just begun to grapple with the implications. Following Owen’s journey of exciting medical discovery, Intothe Gray Zone asks some tough and terrifying questions, such as: What is life like for these patients? What can their families and friends do to help them? What are the ethical implications for religious organizations, politicians, the Right to Die movement, and even insurers? And perhaps most intriguing of all: in defining what a life worth living is, are we too concerned with the physical and not giving enough emphasis to the power of thought? What, truly, defines a satisfying life? “Strangely uplifting…the testimonies of people who have returned from the gray zone evoke the mysteries of consciousness and identity with tremendous power” (The New Yorker). This book is about the difference between a brain and a mind, a body and a person. Into the Gray Zone is “a fascinating memoir…reads like a thriller” (Mail on Sunday).

This thought-provoking collection of original material, translated from Russian includes interviews with Dr. Buteyko covering the development of his ideas from 1962 to 1998 and his main CEOB ( Conscious Elimination of Deep Breathing ) manual. It is important because it provides insight into the power of his method when used by trained practitioners, especially in a clinical setting. His visionary and disciplined approach to healing was so successful that it threatened the medical establishment which unfortunately reacted by trying to suppress it but it managed to survive because of his independent mind, tenacity, and determined character.
The interviews complement each other well, adding interesting details of his life and work and also supporting the previously translated important 1969 Buteyko Lecture at the Moscow State University which sums up his achievement to that date and then adds information on the subsequent development of his thinking.
Here is a summary of the main chapters:
    1. 1962 interview while he was Head of a functional Diagnostics laboratory within the Siberian branch of the USSR Academy of Science.
    2. 1982 interview covers the development of his theoretical ideas and practical work in further detail.
    3. Large practical guide ( CEOB Breath Retraining Manual ) showing his systematic approach to 'the Conscious Elimination of Deep Breathing' in sick patients in a clinical setting.
    4. 1997 Buteyko answers questions by callers on a public radio program
    5. Interview with a Siberian newspaper in 1998 when he was 75 where he talks about his work and medical and spiritual perspective.
    6. Interview on Ukrainian Television in the late 1980s with a detailed restating of his work where he advocates for breathing retraining centers in Ukraine and Russia.
