Summary

Six short science fiction stories that subvert the tropes and clichés of the golden age and caricature the gender dynamics of classic science fiction.
In these pages, you'll travel from suburban America to the farthest reaches of the galaxy. You'll visit New Pluto City and Garrett's World. You'll encounter the terrors of the Brazilian jungle and the horrors of American suburbia. You'll meet phantom lovers and alien she-devils, devious man-eaters, unseen underwater monsters and the tentacled menace of the fearsome Eee'chuk-chi'up. You'll encounter dashing space heroes who don't get the girl and bug-eyed monsters that do. And you'll meet intergalactic heroines who know exactly what they want from a lover.
This is a collection of six satirical science fiction stories of 7700 words or approximately 26 print pages altogether.
Available since: 11/06/2015.

Classic fairytales get a refreshing satirical twist in this “gem of a book” featuring “gorgeous art nouveau illustrations and imaginative tales” (Refinery 29).

In The Land of Stone Flowers, gnomes, pixies, and other fairy folk share tall tales of the strange and unbelievable human world and its inhabitants. Brimming with keen observations and wild assumptions on human anatomy, customs, languages, rituals, dwellings, and more, this collection is as absurd as it is astounding, examining contradictory and nonsensical human behaviors through the lens of the fantastic.

The intrigued authors cover everything from the bewitching paper wizards who live in humans’ wallets to their invisible hats, known as “moods,” which cloud their view of the world. Bursting with intricate and evocative illustrations, The Land of Stone Flowers will draw readers into a world of fantasy and fable that slyly reveals many hidden truths about human existence.

From the wise guys behind Is Martha Stewart Living? comes a hilarious parody of the lifestyle maven’s autobiography.   Long before Martha Stewart's insider trading scandal, Tom Connor and Jim Downey had been spoofing her announced-then-postponed autobiography, Martha, Really and Truly. Now, in Martha, Really and Cruelly, the best-selling humor duo delivers their own version of events leading up to her sensational downfall.   Written in "Martha's" voice, this faux autobiography reveals early incidents of unethical playing-house tactics, questionable Kool-Aid stand practices, highly suspect home ec grades, and devious dating strategies. And that's before she's out of her teens!   If anyone can take uncannily accurate aim at the Dominatrix of Domesticity, it's Connor and Downey. Their breakout best-seller Is Martha Stuart Living? was followed by Martha Stuart's Better Than You at Entertaining and Martha Stuart's Excruciatingly Perfect Weddings.

A college instructor embarks on a fanatical quest to save his job—and enact righteous revenge—in this brilliantly acerbic satire of university politics during the early Cold War yearsHenry Mulcahy’s future is in question. An instructor of literature at Jocelyn College, an institute of higher learning renowned for its progressive approach to education, he has just received word that he will not be teaching next semester. He strongly suspects that his dismissal has been engineered by his nemesis, the college president, who Henry believes resents his superior skills as an educator. Or perhaps he is being targeted by the government in this Cold War era, now that Senator Joseph McCarthy’s communist witch hunt is in full swing, especially since Henry’s dedication to independent thinking is, he believes, renowned. Whatever the case, Henry Mulcahy wants justice—and vengeance—and he will not go quietly without a fight. But the battle might expose too much of Henry’s true nature . . .Witty and biting, Mary McCarthy’s The Groves of Academe is a deliciously pointed satire of the world of higher education and its petty despots, tiny wars, and internal politics. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Mary McCarthy including rare images from the author’s estate.

A debut collection of witty, biting essays laced with a surprising warmth, from Jen Mann, the writer behind the popular blog People I Want to Punch in the Throat.
People I want to punch in the throat:
    ● anyone who feels the need to bling her washer and dryer
    ● humblebraggers
    ● people who treat their pets like children
Jen Mann doesn't have a filter, which sometimes gets her in trouble with her neighbors, her fellow PTA moms, and that one woman who tried to sell her sex toys at a home shopping party. Known for her hilariously acerbic observations on her blog, People I Want to Punch in the Throat, Mann now brings her sharp wit to bear on suburban life, marriage, and motherhood in this laugh-out-loud collection of essays. From the politics of joining a play group, to the thrill of mothers' night out at the gun range, to the rewards of your most meaningful relationship (the one you have with your cleaning lady), nothing is sacred or off-limits. So the next time you find yourself wearing fuzzy bunny pajamas in the school carpool line or accidentally stuck at a coworker's swingers party, just think, What would Jen Mann do? Or better yet, buy her book.

Screenwriter Harry Towns continues his misadventures in this novel from a New York Times–bestselling author and “witty chronicler of urban angst” (San Francisco Chronicle).   Set in late-1980s New York, this novel continues the story of Harry Towns—who is well into his fifties and is feeling increasingly out of place in the world, but doesn’t let that stop him from pursuing success as a playwright (or at least making some quick cash by selling a TV series). He has a second wife and a young daughter, but he doesn’t let that stop him from bedding the occasional hooker (and getting mugged along the way). It isn’t easy getting older, but Harry plugs along. The only thing that truly paralyzes him is trying to decide whether to get tickets to Cats . . .   “A triumph . . . Hilarious.” —The Globe and Mail (Toronto)   “Harry Towns, like his creator, shows in the end . . . amazing resilience, inventiveness, hope and good humor.” —The Washington Post

Ilsa von Braunfels was born somewhere in Paraguay in 1954. She is the daughter of absolutely, totally, and utterly voluntarily emigrated Germans. At the age of nineteen, she returned to her parents' Swabian home, settling in Stuttgart where she has since been studying German philology, for 78 semesters and counting. Asked by a journalist about the duration of her studies, the author answered that it was simply impossible to understand the literary achievements of the German people in less than a lifetime.
She is sharing her life with her husband Klaus, their son Arndt, and their German sheep dog, Eva. In her spare time, Ilsa likes visiting German folk music concerts and participating in goose step hiking, a discipline in which she has been German champion twice already. Ilsa likes traveling and has visited Antarctica several times.
