Summary

This book looks at the experiences and achievement levels of Irish-born football migrants to Britain and further afield. In particular, it draws on interviews with twenty-four Irish-born footballers, each of whom has played league football in England or Scotland in the 1945-2010 period. This is the first book to utilise these migrants as a quantitative source, and to illustrate their experiences within the context of the Irish diaspora. It builds on a comprehensive range of databases to examine players’ career movements and is illustrated throughout with tables and pictures. An examination of the birthplaces of players is offered along with the reasons for their geographical diversity. As well as providing an assessment of the development of schoolboy coaching structures in Ireland and the social challenges which many young players have faced, particularly in rural areas, it discusses key childhood influences and the development of scouting networks. It assesses the recruitment process and identifies the Irish clubs which have produced the most players who have migrated and played first team league football in Britain, and in turn, it establishes the clubs in Britain which have given first team league football to the most Irish-born players. The impact of the Troubles on the migration of Northern Ireland born players is also discussed. An assessment of players’ working conditions and the culture of professional football in Britain is given, particularly in light of the cultural adaption required, while the book also examines the changing nature of the post-playing careers of these footballers. The decline of Irish-born players within top flight English league football is discussed along with a number of difficulties facing future Irish football migrants. In locating the study of Irish football migrants within the study of Irish migration to Britain, Europe and the United States of America, and in comparing the experiences of Irish born footballers with those from other nations, this book is the first of its kind.

Would you like to stop being the narcissist’s punching bag and regain the respect that you deserve?

Do you tend to attract abusive people that take advantage of you? Are you left conflicted and confused after the relationship falls apart?

It’s a fact that the narcissist in your life doesn’t care about you. Dr. Judith Orloff said it best, “Narcissists have an empathy deficit disorder – they’re not capable of empathy as we know it.”

As a result, they are more likely to display narcissistic traits, like engaging in manipulative or game playing behaviors, than to commit long-term. If you’ve been with a narcissist in a relationship, then you have become the victim of something called "narcissistic abuse.”

To the narcissist, you are nothing more than a source of attention, admiration, and praise. They need you to supply these things so that they can continue to support their inflated, false sense of self.  While narcissism in men is more common, women are no exception. Realizing that you are in an abusive relationship can be a difficult challenge for anyone to face. Luckily, you are not alone in this journey. There are important tools needed for this process to help you understand what has happened, cope with the trauma, and move on from narcissism in toxic relationships.

The definition of narcissistic abuse implies that you’ve been a victim of verbal abuse, manipulation, gaslighting, exploitation, subjugation, neglect, isolation, or even violence, and reading this book will greatly benefit you! In Narcissist Abuse Recovery, you will learn how to break free of your abuser, get through the recovery process, and form meaningful relationships in the future.

    In this book, you’ll discover:

How to enter the mind of a narcissist and uncover their deepest, darkest secrets

The undeniable traits that qualify you as the ultimate target for narcissists

How to reveal the mask that narcissists use to hide their true identify and decode their language

The one thing narcissist can’t go without and how you can starve them of it

How to take your abuser's power away and regain the respect that you deserve

The zombie effect that occurs when you don’t stand up for yourself, and how the narcissist can use it against you

The horrifying abuse cycle stages narcissists funnel you through to turn into a chew toy

How abusers can sometimes stick around long after you get rid of them

A simple technique for silencing your abuser and taking control of the situation

Weapons an abuser plans to use against you when trying to leave a narcissist marriage or going through a narcissism divorce

Effective methods for recovering from abuse and healing psychological trauma

The inescapable narcissism that exists in your family, and how to fight against it

    And much much more!

The road to healing and narcissism recovery has never been easier. This book was written by someone that has experienced what you have been through — pain and confusion, and desperation for something better. Most victims can have trouble leaving abusive relationships, but you can different. You can leave your abuser without feeling abandoned, even if you’re scared to be alone or have no place to go. It is possible, and we are capable of reaching goals through our strength. The chilling true story of a beautiful violin prodigy, her devoted boyfriend, and the devastating family secrets that led to a brutal murder.    Joyce Aparo seemed to be the perfect single mother. She doted on her sixteen-year-old daughter, Karin, encouraging her musical ability and lavishing affection on her. But behind closed doors, Joyce was a terror. For thirteen years, she beat Karin savagely, kept her away from other children, and demeaned her relentlessly. When Karin met the troubled yet brilliant Dennis Coleman, the two fell head-over-heels into lustful infatuation. But Joyce disapproved—so she had to die.   On August 5, 1987, Joyce’s body was found under a bridge near the Connecticut–Massachusetts border. She had been strangled, and was covered in bruises, with paper stuffed in her mouth and pantyhose knotted around her throat. The police investigation soon dragged her horrific treatment of Karin into the open, and the teenage lovers became the prime suspects. Dennis eventually confessed to the murder, testifying that Karin begged him to kill her mother. But Karin had a very different story to tell, claiming to have no knowledge of Dennis’s plans. Was she manipulating the police the same way she manipulated her former boyfriend, or was she an innocent victim?   Based on meticulous research, court transcripts, and interviews with the survivors, Beyond Obsession is the definitive account of an American tragedy and the basis for a popular TV movie starring Victoria Principal and Emily Warfield.

    Illiberal Reformers - Race...

In Illiberal Reformers, Thomas Leonard reexamines the economic progressives whose ideas and reform agenda underwrote the Progressive Era dismantling of laissez-faire and the creation of the regulatory welfare state, which, they believed, would humanize and rationalize industrial capitalism. But not for all. Academic social scientists such as Richard T. Ely, John R. Commons, and Edward A. Ross, together with their reform allies in social work, charity, journalism, and law, played a pivotal role in establishing minimum-wage and maximum-hours laws, workmen's compensation, antitrust regulation, and other hallmarks of the regulatory welfare state. But even as they offered uplift to some, economic progressives advocated exclusion for others, and did both in the name of progress. Leonard meticulously reconstructs the influence of Darwinism, racial science, and eugenics on scholars and activists of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, revealing a reform community deeply ambivalent about America's poor. Illiberal Reformers shows that the intellectual champions of the regulatory welfare state proposed using it not to help those they portrayed as hereditary inferiors but to exclude them.

The Book of Lies is a complex work of occultism. Deciphering its many layers of hidden meaning requires a little patience and more than a beginner's knowledge of Thelema. For those interested in passing beyond the initiate stage, the reward offered by a deeper understanding of this challenging text is well worth the effort.

William Hillman started manufacturing cars in Coventry in 1907 before selling his company to the Rootes Brothers in 1928. Three years later came the Hillman Minx, the first of a line that would endure in multiple forms for nearly half a century, even after the remarkable Imp arrived in 1963 to claim a slice of the market opened by the BMC Mini. Rarely revolutionary, Hillman cars nevertheless carved out a special place in the hearts of the British people as well as many overseas customers. This beautifully illustrated introduction to a classic British marque traces Hillman's history from its first cars at the turn of the century until, weakened by industrial disputes, it disappeared in the mid-1970s.
