Summary

The Post-Soviet Wars is a comparative account of the organized violence in the Caucusus region, looking at four key areas: Chechnya, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Dagestan. Zürcher’s goal is to understand the origin and nature of the violence in these regions, the response and suppression from the post-Soviet regime and the resulting outcomes, all with an eye toward understanding why some conflicts turned violent, whereas others not. Notably, in Dagestan actual violent conflict has not erupted, an exception of political stability for the region. The book provides a brief history of the region, particularly the collapse of the Soviet Union and the resulting changes that took place in the wake of this toppling. Zürcher carefully looks at the conditions within each region — economic, ethnic, religious, and political — to make sense of why some turned to violent conflict and some did not and what the future of the region might portend. This important volume provides both an overview of the region that is both up-to-date and comprehensive as well as an accessible understanding of the current scholarship on mobilization and violence.

Abortion: The Ultimate Exploitation of Women unwinds the cultural myth that abortion empowers women. Not only are men responsible for promoting and legalizing abortion in America, they are the key beneficiaries. Using historical facts, medical research, and emotional personal stories, Fisher provides overwhelming evidence that abortion undermines women’s rights, victimizes women, children, and men, and is eroding the very fabric of our society.

“The revolution is not an apple that falls when it is ripe. You have to make it fall. The life of a single human being is worth a million times more than all the property of the richest man on earth. I am not a liberator. Liberators do not exist. The people liberate themselves.” CHE GUEVARA A unique audio primer and celebration of the inspirational life and great work of revolutionary and social reformer Commandante Ernesto Rafael 'Che" Guevara de la Serna Lynch. Ernesto was born June 14, 1928 in Rosario, Argentina, in a family with aristocratic roots but strong socialistic ideals. In June of 1955 young Ernesto met Raul Castro. On July 8th Fidel Castro arrived in Mexico to join his brother and Ernesto. When Fidel met Che "he was already an educated revolutionary.” Remembers Castro. The great Cuban revolution against tyranny soon followed and was won chiefly because of the dedication of the Castros and Dr. Guevara. On October 8, 1967 in the village La Higuera, Bolivia, Che and two comrades fell into the hands of the army. A Bolivian colonel and the representatives of the CIA, arrived by helicopter. It was decided to murder Che and his comrades Willy Cuba and Juan Pablo Chang immediately. A nervous, young low level Bolivian soldier did the job, Che, the icon and hero of all hearts and minds however, lives forever! Author G. M. Matheny was a US Navy saturation diver on the nuclear submarine USS Halibut involved in Operation Ivy Bells, America's most important (and most dangerous of the Cold War) clandestine operations. If you like good old-fashioned American bravado, espionage, and American history, you will enjoy this book.
God & Spies is a firsthand account of America's greatest intelligence coup.
Operation Ivy Bells was not a onetime intercept of foreign intelligence but an ongoing operation of multiple Soviet military channels! Another reason for the high interest in our operation was the audacious nature in which it was done - with not one person risking his neck but the crews of two US Navy nuclear submarines which rendezvoused in Soviet territorial waters.
"How did I end up as a navy diver, 400 feet down in a frigid Russian sea? After making my dad totally disgusted with me, I set out to make him happy. 'Honor thy father' - I struggled with a decision to serve God. 'Lord, I will give my life to you and serve you if you let me make this dive.' But I had the impression He only wanted to know one thing: 'What if I do not let you? Will you serve me anyway?'"
