Beschreibung

In "The Home: Its Work and Influence," Charlotte Perkins Gilman explores the intricate relationship between domestic life and broader societal structures. Written in her distinctively incisive and engaging style, this seminal work offers a critical examination of the home as both a physical space and a social institution. Gilman employs a blend of sociological analysis and personal reflection, revealing how the domestic sphere shapes and is shaped by gender roles, economic systems, and cultural values. The book stands as a striking critique of the 19th-century expectations of women, advocating for a reevaluation of the home'Äôs role in shaping individual identity and societal norms, making it an essential text in the context of feminist literature and social reform movements of her time. Charlotte Perkins Gilman, a prominent feminist theorist and social reformer, wrote extensively on women's issues and economic independence, influenced by her own experiences and struggles with mental health and domesticity. As a suffragist and advocate for women's rights, Gilman's perspectives in this book are informed by a deep-seated belief in the necessity of reforming women's roles in society. Her personal journey, combined with her academic interests in sociology, greatly informs the urgency and relevance of her arguments. "The Home: Its Work and Influence" is highly recommended for readers interested in feminist theory, sociology, and the historical context of women'Äôs lives. Gilman'Äôs insightful commentary not only challenges traditional notions of domesticity but also inspires contemporary reflections on gender, labor, and social equity. This work serves as a vital source for anyone seeking to understand the evolution of women's roles and the enduring implications of home and family dynamics.

***An Instant #1 New York Times Bestseller!***
From international drag superstar and pop culture icon RuPaul, comes his most revealing and personal work to date--a deeply intimate memoir of discovery, found family, and self-acceptance. The House of Hidden Meanings is a self-portrait of the legendary icon on the road to global fame and changing the way the world thinks about drag.
Central to RuPaul’s success has been his chameleonic adaptability. From drag icon to powerhouse producer of one of the world’s largest television franchises, RuPaul’s ever-shifting nature has always been part of his brand as both supermodel and supermogul. Yet that adaptability has made him enigmatic to the public. In this memoir, his most intimate and detailed book yet, RuPaul makes himself truly known.
In The House of Hidden Meanings, RuPaul strips away all artifice and recounts the story of his life with breathtaking clarity and tenderness, bringing his signature wisdom and wit to his own biography. From his early years growing up as a queer Black kid in San Diego navigating complex relationships with his absent father and temperamental mother, to forging an identity in the punk and drag scenes of Atlanta and New York, to finding enduring love with his husband Georges LeBar and self-acceptance in sobriety, RuPaul excavates his own biography life-story, uncovering new truths and insights in his personal history.
Here in RuPaul’s singular and extraordinary story is a manual for living—a personal philosophy that testifies to the value of chosen family, the importance of harnessing what makes you different, and the transformational power of facing yourself fearlessly.
A profound introspection of his life, relationships, and identity, The House of Hidden Meanings is a self-portrait of the legendary icon on the road to global fame and changing the way the world thinks about drag. “I've always loved to view the world with analytical eyes, examining what lies beneath the surface. Here, the focus is on my own life—as RuPaul Andre Charles,” says RuPaul.
If we’re all born naked and the rest is drag, then this is RuPaul totally out of drag. This is RuPaul stripped bare.

Children represent the future of our societies, yet they remain among the most vulnerable and marginalized populations worldwide. The protection of children's rights has become one of the most critical global issues in the 21st century, demanding urgent attention and action. While significant progress has been made in raising awareness of children's rights, millions of children still suffer from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and deprivation. This complex and multifaceted issue requires an in-depth understanding of the challenges children face, as well as the actions needed to safeguard their well-being.

At the core of children's rights is the belief that every child, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, or economic background, deserves to grow up in an environment where they can thrive. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948, set the stage for international human rights legislation, but it was the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), adopted in 1989, that provided a comprehensive framework for child protection. This treaty, ratified by nearly every nation, outlines civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights for children, recognizing their right to life, education, protection from violence, and participation in the decisions that affect their lives.

However, despite these legal frameworks, violations of children's rights continue at an alarming rate. Poverty, armed conflict, lack of access to education, child labor, and human trafficking are among the many issues that continue to affect children around the world. These issues often intersect and exacerbate one another, creating a cycle of vulnerability that is difficult to break. It is essential that global efforts to protect children are strengthened, and that all sectors of society—from governments to NGOs to the private sector—work together to ensure the full realization of children's rights.

Have you been wondering about the big issues dominating the news? Is climate change a massive threat or not? What is really going on with immigration? More importantly, how did American politics become so divided and hostile? What if we approached American social, cultural and political problems from a purely rational perspective? What if we focus on functional systems instead of division? Careful analysis of readily available data can help us discover patterns and uncover the real issues. An engineering perspective allows us to focus on what needs to be fixed rather than ideological divisions.
Finally, one of America's top engineers has brought these topics and others together in a thought-provoking book. This book is rooted in history, facts, and logic, and it lays out solutions to America's problems. A book focused to get Americans talking to one another again, so we can rise to the occasion and solve today's problems together.
William Taggart has over thirty years as a professional engineer in industry. He has travelled the world, building some of industry’s biggest projects and solving some of their thorniest problems. Now, he has applied analytical skills developed in industry, coupled with his natural inquisitiveness and thirst for creative solutions, to the problems of modern-day American politics. Seeking answers to questions many of us have been asking, he has focused his keen mind on researching these, and other big issues. He invites everyone to think about what America really needs.

Ernesto was born June 14, 1928, in Rosario, Argentina, in a family with aristocratic roots but strong socialistic ideals. In June of 1955 young Ernesto met Raul Castro. On July 8th Fidel Castro arrived in Mexico to join his brother and Ernesto. When Fidel met Che "he was already an educated revolutionary.” Remembers Castro. The great Cuban revolution against tyranny soon followed and was won chiefly because of the dedication of the Castros and Dr. Guevara. On October 8, 1967, in the village La Higuera, Bolivia, Che, and two comrades fell into the hands of the army. A Bolivian colonel and the representatives of the CIA arrived by helicopter. It was decided to murder Che and his comrades Willy Cuba and Juan Pablo Chang immediately. A nervous, young low-level Bolivian soldier did the job, Che, the icon and hero of all hearts and minds, however, live forever!
