Summary

A couple of years before, Virgil McBride's life changed... for the better. He'd been working as a ranch hand at a cattle ranch in Texas while hiding the fact that he was a cougar shifter. Then his boss brought home a gargoyle mate. It didn't take long for staff to transition, wheedling out those humans who weren't trustworthy. Virgil loves his new freedoms, allowing him to shift and explore the ranch in animal form. While out running as a cougar, Virgil scents something amazing, and he realizes his mate is near. Searching out the source, he finds something he's never seen before... and it isn't the dilapidated hunting stand. Virgil meets Shaw, a wombat shifter. Even though he assures his mate that he would be welcome at the ranch, Shaw isn't convinced. After learning why—the beta of Shaw's wombat wisdom is claiming him as his mate—Virgil realizes he's not going to be able to fulfill his wombat's dreams on his own. Can Virgil win Shaw's trust enough to get the help they need to free his mate and give them a future?

Keeping the Peace: Walking into the interrogation room, a council enforcer realizes Fate has decided to throw him a curveball. Enforcer Delanrue Drudeson is a komodo dragon shifter who's known as the intense brother, the unapproachable one, but he has his reasons. Keeping his brothers safe from a sadistic alpha while growing up meant he'd had to be a careful, manipulative adult…from a very early age. Specializing in interrogation for the last several decades, Delanrue is happy with his life. Then he walks into a secure room where he's supposed to question the occupant by any means necessary—Midget Suvergy, a guinea pig shifter. Except, one sniff tells Delanrue that Midget is his mate—the other half of his soul. Knowing the mate-pull could easily compromise his judgment, he immediately assigns the interrogation duties to another. That doesn't stop him from walking back into that room to be with him. Midget claims just to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, and to Delanrue's relief, his words scent true. Then word comes down that Midget is wanted for the murder of a member of his guinea pig muddle. Delanrue isn't stupid. It's easy to see that Midget is no killer, no matter what anyone says. Can Delanrue's connections keep Midget safe long enough to clear him from the conspiracy dogging his steps?

Terry’s the first to admit he’s a neurotic Prince Charming, and he’s kissed his share of male and female frogs, but he’s never met anyone quite like Evan Myles. Evan calls Terry by the wrong name, mistakes Terry for a simple construction worker, and picks apart his work as an architect. Despite this rough start, Terry is lured by the brilliance of Evan’s ideas, his quirky personality, and once they’re alone in Evan’s cabin, the man’s mad skills in bed. Yet Terry knows it takes more than a single night of passion to make a relationship work, and after so many failures, he’s just not ready to try again.
Evan and Terry’s path is strewn with stones neither of them can dislodge. Fortunately, they’re not alone on the road to romance. They’re in Christmas Town, home to matchmakers, meddlers, and more “fairy godfathers” than they could possibly know what to do with.
