Summary

Human needs are endless. Market is influenced by consumer choice and business activities revolve round consumers. Consumers do not revolve round the market. It was towards the end of 20th Century that more and more goods started coming in the market in closed or sealed packet's, boxes containers etc. the contents of which could not be externally examined and there was likelihood of consumers being deceived and explored by unscrupulous manufacturers and sellers. Therefore, in order to counter these problems and safeguard interests of consumers, there was need for adequate consumer protection legislation and formation of consumer societies. It is in this background that consumerism emerged as a protective umbrella to provide production to consumers against defect in goods and deficiency in service by the service providers. In this book an attempt has been made to enumerate remedies under various Laws for the purpose of Protection of Consumer's right. Since this is an research work so it is not possible to enumerate all the remedies available to Consumers in Law of Land nevertheless some important Laws are mentioned.

“Voskoboynik’s book offers an exhilarating introduction to our ecological crisis, what caused it, and how we can imagine a better future.” —Jason Hickel, author of Less Is More

The Memory We Could Be moves beyond the sterile, technical language around climate change and ecology to humanize the abstraction of global warming and bring different voices into the conversation.

Drawing on sources from anthropology to hydrology, botany to economics, agronomy to astrobiology, medicine to oceanography, physics to history, the author weaves a lyrical and powerful story of our relationship with nature.

    The book has three parts:

“Past” addresses memory. Our inability to comprehend our staggering present partly lies in our ignorance of our staggering past. We peer into the black box of history to understand how we got here. We go on a journey across the roots of our ecological crisis, from the Roman Empire to the forests of Burma, from Congolese rubber plantations, to Colombian oil fields.

“Present” illustrates how climate change is shaping our world today, explores how it relates to poverties and inequalities, and equips readers with a set of intuitive instruments to understand climate impacts.

“Future” looks at alternatives and strives to illustrate in human terms the world we could lose and the world we can win. It asks what we can do and develops a transformative vision of a more ecological and equitable economy.

The Memory We Could Be is vital reading for all of humanity.

“A gripping review of where we’ve been, where we are, and where we may be headed.” —Michael E. Mann, author of The New Climate War

This is the world of pre-suasion, where subtle turns of phrase, seemingly insignificant visual cues and apparently unimportant details of location can prime people to say yes even before they are asked. It’s a world where the cautious blurt out personal information if asked a particular initial question, where online purchases are influenced by unrelated background images, and where exam results are affected by the layout of the classroom. It’s a world you can master. If you understand the tools of pre-suasion, you will better placed to win a debate, get support for an idea or cause, promote a campaign - even persuade yourself to do something you find difficult.

Drawing on the latest research, and packed with fascinating case studies, Pre-Suasion is both a rigorous work of cutting-edge scholarship and a compelling account of the strange workings of the human mind. It’s also a supremely practical guide to enhancing your powers of influence.

“Truth Warriors is packed with fascinating stories, novel insights, and practical tips for every leader who has something worth fighting for.” —Liane Davey, New York Times bestselling author of You First and The Good Fight.
This book will help you to navigate conflict and make better decisions. As author Christi Scarrow points out, all of us have the opportunity to make decisions that count, whether in our professional or personal lives. To do so, we must become what Scarrow calls “Truth Warriors.” We must believe in ourselves, yet question our most firmly held assumptions and beliefs. We must know when to speak up and when to be quiet. In the end, says Scarrow, “making better decisions is about making your voice about our voice and your truth about our truth. Only then can we change the world.”
