Summary

First published in 1920. Job opportunities in aviation soon after World War I. "Any ordinary, active man, provided he has reasonably good eyesight and nerve, can fly, and fly well. If he has nerve enough to drive an automobile through the streets of a large city, and perhaps argue with a policeman on the question of speed limits, he can take himself off the ground in an airplane, and also land—a thing vastly more difficult and dangerous. We hear a great deal about special tests for the flier—vacuum-chambers, spinning-chairs, co-ordination tests—there need be none of these. The average man in the street, the clerk, the laborer, the mechanic, the salesman, with proper training and interest can be made good, if not highly proficient pilots. If there may be one deduction drawn from the experience of instructors in the Royal Air Force, it is that it is the training, not the individual, that makes the pilot."

A neurotic party girl's coming-of-age memoir about learning to live before getting ready to die.Tara has it pretty good: a nice job, a writing career, a forgiving boyfriend. She should be happy. Yet Tara can't stay sober. She's terrible at monogamy. Even her psychiatrist grows sick of her and stops returning her calls. She spends most of her time putting out social fires, barely pulling things off, and feeling sick and tired. Then, in the autumn following her twenty-seventh birthday, an abnormal lump discovered in her left breast serves as the catalyst for a journey of rigorous self-questioning. Waiting on a diagnosis, she begins an intellectual assessment of her life, desperate to justify a short existence full of dumb choices. Armed with her philosophy degree and angry determination, she attacks each issue in her life as the days creep by and winds up writing a searingly honest memoir about learning to live before getting ready to die.

I was only a little baby song-sparrow, and from the moment I came out of my shell everybody knew there was something the matter with me. So starts the short story of Scraggles, a young sparrow who came to be rescued and nurtured by a human family, as told in Scraggles "own words". Listeners are forewarned the ending chapters of Scraggles may be disturbing to some of our younger listeners. In old times, number theory was also known as arithmetic. However, now arithmetic and number theory are considered as separate branches from each other’s, it was not same in old times. Number theory is one of the many important branches of pure mathematics. This branch is mainly dedicated and includes study about integers. This theory describes many fundamental and basic concepts of mathematics that were used to develop modern concepts. Thus, number theory is often referred as “Queen of Mathematics”. In number theory, following concepts are described:Concept of prime numbersProperties of objects that are derived through integersGeneralization of integers
Rational numbers and algebraic integers are significant concepts that are included in number theory. In number theory, integers are considered as a solution to a particular problem. This concept is known as Riemann Zeta Function. However, it is not necessary to consider them as solution only; they can also be considered in themselves. Study of analytical objects helps to understand questions in number theory. Properties of integers, prime numbers and number-theoretic objects are described in Riemann Zeta Function. These properties can be studied descriptively in a separated branch named analytic number theory. In Diophantine approximation, real numbers are learnt in ration to relational number.
In older terms, arithmetic was used to refer number theory. However, it was separated in early 20th century. Arithmetic word is now used to refer to general elementary calculations. Term arithmetic is now used in many fields such as:Mathematical logicPeano arithmeticComputer scienceFloating point arithmetic
In late 20th century, French theorists leaved a noticeable impact on number theory. Due to their influence, they again related tern arithmetic with number theory. However, many theorists argued upon this and denied to accept this as it was already proven false in past time. However, term arithmetical is now considered as adjective to number-theoretic. Early 20th century was a golden time for development of number theory, especially the time span of 1930s and 1940s. Many important results were acquired in that period. Later on, 1970s was proven an important period as well with the development of computational complexity theory.
Number theory is an important branch of pure mathematics since it contains many basic concepts that are used to build up complex concepts of pure mathematics. One who is looking for a breakthrough in broad term mathematics is suggested to start from this theory. It will clear up basic concepts so it will be surprisingly easy to understand complex concepts. This short book describes all the basic concepts without going in too deep. So, one can use this basic knowledge to understand complex concepts easily and effectively.

The battles fought by the British army in 1915, in the second year of the First World War, are less well known than those fought immediately after the outbreak of war in 1914 and those that followed in 1916 which culminated in the Battle of the Somme. But the fighting at Aubers Ridge, Festubert, Neuve Chapelle and Loos was just as severe as was the 1916 battle at Fromelles and the battlefields are just as interesting to explore today. This volume in the Battle Lines series is the perfect guide to them.Expert guides Jon Cooksey and Jerry Murland take visitors over a series of routes that can be walked, biked or driven, explaining the fighting that occurred at each place in vivid detail. They describe what happened, where it happened and why and who was involved, and point out the sights that remain for the visitor to see. Their highly illustrated guidebook is essential reading for visitors who wish to enhance their understanding of warfare on the Western Front.
