Summary

A wealthy man unknowingly harbors the Sultana after she sneaks out of the palace, which causes the Sultan and his guards to storm their party. Threatened with death, the man tries to convince the Sultan to spare his life. Hassan is a wealthy merchant who loves the company of common travelers. Despite his social status and many wives (25 to be exact), he constantly opens his home to relative strangers. In one instance, he is entertained by a group of dancers including the Sultana in disguise. She has ventured outside the palace without the Sultan’s knowledge. If the Sultana is discovered, she, Hassan and multiple members of his party will be put to death. The Rose of Persia is an intricate tale about tradition, politics and secret desires. Basil Hood and Arthur Sullivan deliver a humorous tale led by an unlikely but empathetic hero. With an eye-catching new cover, and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of The Rose of Persia is both modern and readable.

An era-defining comedy set amongst London's gay community. Winner of the Evening Standard and Laurence Olivier Awards for Best Comedy.
The play follows the ups and downs of a circle of gay friends over a period of several years. One of the group, the Reg mentioned in the title, is not a character in the play but the whole plot revolves around his apparent promiscuity and the chain reaction of deception and betrayal set off by it.
My Night With Reg premiered at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in March 1994.

"Stellar . . . with great humanity, grace and precision." —Nicole Sealey, author of Ordinary BeastGabrielle Bates's electric debut collection Judas Goat plumbs the depths of intimate relationships. The book's eponymous animal is used to lead sheep to slaughter, while its own life is spared, and its harrowing existence echoes through this spellbinding collection of forty poems, which wrestle with betrayal and forced obedience, violence and young womanhood, and the "forbidden felt language" of sexual and sacred love. These poems conjure encounters with figures from scriptures, domesticated animals eyeing the wild, and mothering as a shape-shifting, spectral force; they question what it means to love another person and how to exorcise childhood fears. All the while, the Deep South haunts, and no matter how far away the speaker moves, the South always draws her back home.In confession, in illumination, Bates establishes herself as an unflinching witness to the risks that desire necessitates, as Judas Goat holds listeners close and whispers its unforgettable lines.

Hollywood is indelibly printed in our minds as the ‘go-to’ place for entertainment and has been for decades. When there really did seem to be more stars in Hollywood than in Heaven Hollywood Stage had them performing films as radio plays – on the sponsors dime of course. Classic films now become audiobooks with many featuring the original stars from way back when. Here's Casablanca starring Hedy Lamarr & Alan Ladd.
