Summary

The Saga of a Political Guru, has come as a timely contribution to Ghana's slow- growing literary heritage. The book is an expose' on the somber side of politics when it crossed the decorum of decency.

The corruption of politics as has been portrayed adeptly by Obeng Afrane in this work, captures a cocktail ofintriguing moments: the campaign of calumny and other “inferior communist tactics" employed by political opponents to vilify one another in their inordinate desire to attain political power.

The writer presents the reader with a silent nomenclature of "grotesque images" about our political scenario, and the "familiar spirits" bedevilling our social progress. Obeng Afrane creatively and successfully carried the theme through the central character - Kweku Ananse: a mythical person in Ghanaian folklore whose attributes are personified in deceit, greed, avarice and self-aggrandizement.

The writer's critical but beautifully crafted, easy to read narratives exploding satire and drama knocks on the door of the reader's conscience to awaken it to the subtle acts of manipulations

that have taken the "kingdom of politics" by violence in our part of the world.

The writer in this effort has intended for the reader to come to terms with the subtle "net of deception"and political chicanery and the gripping influence of political practitioners which threatened societal values and often short-circuit our journeys to the 'canaan' of ourcollective destiny.

The Saga of a Political Guru, is a must-read work for all who appreciate good work of art. The book gives us the opportunity to assess the moral quagmire that 'politricks' disguised as politics and coined 'moneytics' by this writer, is plunging our society into. It is a call to re-evaluate ourselves and restore our sanity before the concept of politics is rendered redundant and inconsequential by the immoral act of a few selfish people.

Candy & Smiley is relevant, realistic, and at times -- ridiculous. Comprised of stories about Ed’s life and relationship with his parents, the special explores the intricacies and intimacies of a first generation Taiwanese-Canadian family. Candy & Smiley is a unique and hilarious journey. It is a close examination of the Asian-immigrant experience, a genuine reflection on the meaning of family, and an honest observation on the cultural identity of a new generation.
