Summary

The Victorians may have attempted to show the world they were upright, strict and full of virtue but much of this thinking has been subverted by their erotic and pornographic writing. In our first story, The Romance of Violette, Violette is a sweet, beautiful and innocent 15 year old girl who is seduced by the protagonist, Christian, a 30 year old man who relates how trusting and willing she was. Violette wishes to pursue a career on the stage and needs tuition paid for as well as her board and lodging and falls in love with Christian who provides both. A Countess had also taken a liking to Violette and so began a menage a trois. The Countess encounters another woman with whom she begins a passionate lesbian affair that is recounted in detail. This neatly sets up our second story Sweet Seventeen: the True Story of a Daughter's Awful Whipping and its Delightful if Direful Consequence which explores the ultimate taboo; incest. It details a father's seduction of his young seventeen year old daughter who he deflowers after a whipping. She enjoys the delights of both flagellation and her Father, as it seems most Victorian children do in these erotic happenings. Together they are both explicit and extraordinary in the detailing of sexual conduct, making them ‘not to be missed’ erotic reads.

The Victorians may have attempted to show the world they were upright, strict and full of virtue but much of this thinking has been subverted by their erotic and pornographic writing. This erotic Victorian novel has no author attributed to it but is written in three volumes and begins in the West Indies at a slave plantation recounting the sexual awakening of Lady Harpur or Queenie as she prefers. As will be expected from such a setting it details sexual romping in a quite bewildering array of combinations both between classes, races and sexes. Despite our supposed modern tastes the book is quite shocking at times both in the number of acts and its explicitness. Indeed multiple partners is even quoted as cutting edge thinking in helping prevent unwanted pregnancies. Explicit and extraordinary in its detail of sexual misconduct, making it an erotic ‘not to be missed’ read.

Emma Bovary, a doctor's wife, has a highly romanticized view of the world and craves beauty, wealth, passion, and high society. The disparity between these romantic ideals and the realities of her country life lead her into extramarital love affairs as well as causing her to accrue an insurmountable amount of debt. The book, loosely based on the life story of a school friend who had become a doctor, was written at the urging of friends, who were trying to cure Flaubert of his Romanticism by assigning him the dreariest subject they could think of, and challenging him to make it interesting. When it was first serialized in La Revue de Paris, the novel was attacked for obscenity by public prosecutors. Flaubert's masterpiece is now considered a seminal work of Realism and one of the most influential novels ever written.

LANDON. My life is as good as it bloody gets. I may be an Englishman, but I'm living the American dream. In Vegas I f*ck who I want, when I want, and how I want. Unfortunately, my father needs to pass on the family business and doesn't think sleeping around gives me the credentials I need. I've got one week to convince him and the rest of my old school, English family that I've changed my wild ways and settled down with a "proper" girl. The problem? Claire's hiding something. Which seriously complicates things. She's supposed to help me get what I want ... but my fake fiancé might just ruin it all. CLAIRE. Meeting Landon could be the best thing that's ever happened to me ... or the worst. He's the only man I've considered sleeping with in years ... which says a helluva lot. Mostly that I'm horny as heck, but also that Landon makes me feel sexy ... beautiful ... wanted. Things I never thought I'd feel. Not to mention he's richer than God. Or will be if I can help him for just one week, convincing his family that we're in love and not just scheming to help him inherit the family business. If the plan works, he'll pay me a quarter of a million dollars. But if he finds out who I really am, he'll call off our deal. And I can't let that happen. Not just because I desperately need the money ... but because the time I spend with him makes me believe that true love might be real after all. But Landon is a player. And I can't bear to have my heart broken. So I'm all in with the plan ... but terrified that I'm about to make the biggest mistake of my life ... falling in love with a man who can't be trusted. ***This book is not your mama's Harlequin. Landon is a bad boy who knows what he wants, and he'll get it. And sweetcheeks, you'll love being along for the ride. In fact, by the time you're done with it, you'll want to ride something yourself. Just sayin'. xo, frankie
