Summary

“The Social Network meets Hammer of the Gods” in this story of a 1990s web titan who made a fortune and lost it all—and what happened afterward (The Independent). One day in February 2001, Josh Harris woke to certain knowledge that he was about to lose everything. The man Time magazine called “The Warhol of the Web” was reduced to a helpless spectator as his fortune dwindled from 85 million dollars to nothing, all in the space of a week. Harris had been a maverick genius preternaturally adapted to the new online world. He founded New York’s first dotcom, Pseudo.com, and paved the way for a cadre of twentysomethings to follow, riding a wave of tech euphoria to unimagined wealth and fame for five years—before the great dotcom crash, in which Web 1.0 was wiped from the face of the earth. Long before then, though, Harris’s view of the web had darkened, and he began a series of lurid social experiments aimed at illustrating his worst fear: that the internet would soon alter the very fabric of society—cognitive, social, political, and otherwise. In Totally Wired, journalist Andrew Smith seeks to unravel the opaque and mysterious episodes of the early dotcom craze, in which the seeds of our current reality were sown. Drawing on in-depth interviews with Harris and those who worked alongside him in downtown Manhattan’s “Silicon Alley,” the tale moves from a compound in Ethiopia through New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, London, and Salt Lake City, Utah; from the dawn of the web to the present, taking in the rise of alternative facts, troll society, and the unexpected origins of the net itself, as our world has grown uncannily to resemble the one Harris predicted—and urged us to evade.   “Raucous, whimsical, sad and very funny…a fascinating account of what could have been, what briefly was, what almost lasted.” ―TheWall Street Journal “Told with verve and style…A valuable history.” ―Kirkus Reviews “A brilliant exploration of madness and genius in the early days of the web.”―The Guardian “Dark and compelling.”―Daily Mail “This is a book whose time has come.”―Sunday Times

The term ‘Disruptive Innovation’ was given in the year 1995 by Clayton M. Christensen and is regarded as one of the most influential and important innovations of the 21st century. Disruptive Innovation refers to the innovation which helps in creating new market and value network in place of the existing market and value network which leads to the disruption of the market-leading firms, alliances, and products that had already been established earlier. Each and every innovation cannot be regarded as a disruptive innovation even if they are bringing about change in the existing system.
In accordance with the ‘Theory of Disruptive Innovation’ disruptive innovation has been classified into two types- “low-end disruption” and “new-market disruption.” The low-end disruption is a type of disruption which occurs when the changes within the product take place at a higher rate than the customers are able to adapt to the changes made within the product. The new-market disruption occurs when a new product emerges in the market that has not been served earlier by any of the incumbents of the industry and which fits itself within the new or emerging market segment.
The process of disruptive innovation is considered important for business leaders because of the benefits that it provides to the customers of the market. A disruptive innovator provides the products at a favorable price to its customers as well as years at creating a new and improvised value of his/her product by making additional changes in the product. The process of disruptive innovation has been proven beneficial for executives also.
The first disruptive innovation was encountered by the human beings in around 10,000 BC in the Middle East, and since then it has continued to take place.

From the bottom right to the top: The story of Harald Seiz sounds like a blockbuster Hollywood movie. Harald Seiz grew up with his mother and grandmother near Stuttgart in impoverished conditions. Both struggled with alcohol problems, so Seiz had to learn from early on to stand on his own two feet. From a drinks supplier to a vacuum cleaner salesman, he went through numerous professions and—despite harsh setbacks—always adhered to his dream of success and independence. In 2011 Seiz laid the foundation stone for his company Karatbars International GmbH. The goal was for every human being to be able to own gold. What was once a one-man-company is now a worldwide empire, which generates an annual turnover of more than 100 million euros. But Harald Seiz has even bigger goals: A gold-based means of payment, which is crisis-proof and will revolutionise our financial system. His mission was initially just laughed at. Today he is the market leader for innovative Gold products. And yet Seiz still sees himself at the beginning; a payment system based on gold, gold mines, and the establishment of a bank are only a few of the building blocks which he wants to lay in order to get all the way to the top.Think Big—a book that encourages you to live your dream. And that reveals the recipes for success and how this can be achieved.

The acclaimed author of The Lakota Way shares four essential leadership principles based on the example of Crazy Horse and other Native American leaders.

In this enlightening treatise on the nature of leadership, Lakota philosopher Joseph M. Marshall draws inspiration from three of the greatest leaders in Native American history: Sitting Bull, Red Cloud, and, above all, Crazy Horse. Throughout his life, Crazy Horse demonstrated a genius for effective, compassionate leadership. Four principles stand out when looking at his example: Know yourself. Know your friends. Know the enemy. Lead the way.

The Power of Four examines why these maxims are not only applicable to today’s world, but desperately needed. Demonstrating that leadership by example is more powerful than authority, Marshall offers readers practical advice on how to apply these principles to their own lives.
