Tour the Belgian battleground where Napoleon was defeated—with historical background, maps, archival images, and more.   In this book, the acclaimed author of Napoleon’s Wars provides a new guide to the Battle of Waterloo that presents the experience of the soldiers who took part in the battle in the most graphic and direct way possible—through their own words. In a series of walks, he describes in vivid detail what happened in each location on June 18, 1815 and quotes at length from eyewitness accounts of the men who were there.   Each phase of the action during that momentous day is covered, from the initial French attacks and the intense fighting at Hougoumont and La Haye Sainte to the charges of the French cavalry against the British squares and the final, doomed attack of Napoleon’s Imperial Guard. This innovative guide to this historic site is fully illustrated with a selection of archive images from the War Heritage Institute in Brussels, modern color photographs of the battlefield as it appears today, and specially commissioned maps that allow those who visit in person to follow the course of the battle on the ground.

A funny, poignant look at how horse sense has brought one woman wisdom about life and leadership: “You’ll enjoy this book.”—Buck Brannaman, author of The Faraway Horses   Horses teach life’s great lessons—about the importance of consistency, the value of leading by respect instead of dominance, the wisdom of practicing patience instead of trying to force things. Horsewoman and author Cheryl Kimball uses endearing real-life stories of working with horses to reveal what these remarkable animals have taught her about managing a company, being a leader for employees in times of trouble, and living everyday life more deeply and authentically.   You don’t need a horse to apply the life lessons of Horse Wise. Sharing entertaining and enlightening stories, Kimball explains how the lessons learned from the horse world apply to the world of people and our relationships with each other—and ourselves. When we put ourselves in a horse’s shoes, we gain compassion and wisdom—and we get what we need.

“Fabulously funny - a real must for lovers of all things Greek.”
After living in Greece for thirteen years, writer and reluctant olive farmer Rob Johnson has got used to most of the things that he and his wife Penny found so bizarre at the beginning. Most, but not all.
A Kilo of String is the story-so-far of this not-particularly-plucky couple’s often bewildering experiences among the descendants of Sophocles, Plato and Nana Mouskouri with occasional digressions into total irrelevances.
This is a book which is almost guaranteed not to change your life, but what it will do is answer many of the fundamental questions about life in Greece, such as:
How do you avoid ordering a double tomato for your pine marten when booking a hotel room? Should olive harvesting be registered with the Dangerous Sports Association? Why are chicken livers useful (other than to the chickens themselves)?
“A brilliant book, very funny and a great insight into Greece and its people.”
“Left me laughing so hard I would have spat out my dentures, if I wore them.”
A Kilo of String is loosely based on Rob Johnson’s podcast series of the same name, which is free to listen to and download at https://rob-johnson.org.uk/podcasts/a-kilo-of-string/.
