Summary

Gus has been throwing the towel in out and about since 1978. Walks, runs, crawls, and creeps about. Reporting, observing, surmising, events, real & imagined, recording dreams, visions & hallucinations out of whack with every norm. Always been a bad bet to invite to a wine & cheese party. A stalwart enemy of convention, especially conventional poetry.
This collection is Gus in the extreme.
Available since: 02/12/2020.

The 200th anniversary of the birth of Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809–1892), one of the most popular of poets, is celebrated in 2009. Works such as The Charge of the Light Brigade, Crossing the Bar and Tears, Idle Tears have made him an internationally famous figure, and the second most quoted writer of all time (after Shakespeare). Tennyson’s poetic works encompass a great range of styles, settings and personae, and are known for their emotional resonance and powerful imagery. Naxos AudioBooks’s popular ‘The Great Poets’ series marks the anniversary with a program bringing together all the key works, read by veteran reader Michael Pennington.

The Caucasus has an extremely rich folk literature, almost unknown among English speakers, which includes myths, legends, magical tales, anecdotes and proverbs. The one hundred and one legends included in this book reflect the cultures of fourteen different ethnic groups - their dynamism and the matters that concerned them: survival against external dangers, the risk of starvation and the persistence of the family or clan as a coordinated group. Descended from an oral tradition, much of their knowledge was retained in memories and passed down the generations. Yet, with the introduction of the alphabet, the way of life they portray is rapidly becoming extinct. An incomparable collection, Legends of the Caucasus conveys the poetry and romance of these swiftly vanishing tribes. 'This book has brought into light some of the hidden treasures of the Caucasus … A major contribution not only to the study of the Caucasus, but also to world folklore.' John Colarusso, McMaster University, Canada 'Inventive and meticulous in rendering the extraordinary folk poetry of the many nations of the Caucasus … [This is] essential reading for anyone seeking an insight into the cultures of the Caucasus.' Donald Rayfield, Queen Mary University of London, UK

The Poetry Of Trees. Although there is no definitive definition we all know what they are. At their most magisterial they can reach hundreds of feet into the air and be thousands of years old. But for many the visual structure they bring to our landscape in all their various heights and colours; their contribution to the seasons – stark branches, vivid leaves at birth and death is how we relate to them. For the poets here in this collection trees are a source of inspiration and give us much to contemplate.
