Summary

"A Legacy of Fun" by Abraham Lincoln is a collection of short snippets from the life of one of the United States of America's most famous presidents. Abe Lincoln was known for being a soft-spoken man, but he lived an exciting life, even before his time as president. At one time, Virginia Todd Holeman "Toddy" thought being biblically literate was all she needed and had little interest in what real theologians talked about. But in her counseling she found that clients pressed her for more.
They didn't just want what she had gained through training in the best theories and practices available for counseling. They asked hard theological questions often related to their suffering. As she describes it, they experienced a kind of "theological disequilibrium . . . which left them discouraged, disoriented and often distraught."
Holeman shows how deep and clear theological reflection can make a major difference in counseling practice. Not only can it shape who we are, it can also bring into greater alignment our theological commitments, our therapeutic practices and our professional ethics. All the while it can have the most practical effect on our counseling sessions.
In this volume Holeman guides counseling students, pastoral counselors and licensed mental health professionals into becoming as well-formed theologically as they are trained clinically.
Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS) Books explore how Christianity relates to mental health and behavioral sciences including psychology, counseling, social work, and marriage and family therapy in order to equip Christian clinicians to support the well-being of their clients.

Can you predict killing sprees? What do mass killers have in common? Why do so many of them write manifestos online and what do these tell us?

These are some of the questions David J. Krajicek seeks to answer in Mass Killings, on a topic that is becoming increasing urgent and desperate. In recent decades, mass shootings worldwide have increased in their savagery and frequency. Nearly all mass killers are male - and many of them are bound together by misogyny, misanthropy, and racism. They do not just "snap." They plan their assaults for months or years, drawing up detailed battle plans, and accumulating weaponry. They document the process in journals or videos online, understanding that they are leaving evidence which will help the marquee lights of their futile crimes burn brighter and longer.

Krajicek shows the commonalities between mass shooters, and describes the psychopathic process that leads these troubled men to commit atrocities. Mass killers feed off each other's words and deeds, and it's crucial to be able to read the signals they give out to prevent future tragedies.

We understand the workings of the human body as a series of interdependent physiological relationships, all the way down to the inner workings of every cell. Why is it that the accepted understanding that the physical phenomenon of the mind is attributed only to the brain? In The Embodied Mind, internationally renowned psychiatrist Dr. Thomas R. Verny sets out to redefine our concept of the mind and consciousness. He brilliantly compiles new research that points to the mind's ties to every part of the body. The Embodied Mind collects disparate findings in physiology, genetics, and quantum physics in order to illustrate the mounting evidence that somatic cells, not just neural cells, store memory, inform genetic coding, and adapt to environmental changes—all behaviors that contribute to the mind and consciousness.Verny describes single-celled organisms with no brains demonstrating memory, and points to the remarkable case of a French man who, despite having a brain just a fraction of the typical size, leads a normal life with a family and a job. The Embodied Mind shows how intelligence and consciousness—traits traditionally attributed to the brain alone—also permeate our entire being.

This is a story about my brain…
So, I was a very smart kid. By the age of 18 months, I could speak in complete sentences. By third grade, I was scoring post-high school on standardized tests. As all my teachers agreed, I had so much potential, but I was also struggling simultaneously. I didn't have many friends outside of books.ll.
But I was smart, so nobody was worried. It wasn't until middle school when I was responsible for getting to classes on time and remembering to bring my homework that being smart wasn't enough anymore, and my grades started to suffer.
My mom took me to the doctor, and after a comprehensive evaluation, I was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
By 21, I had dropped out of college and moved back home.
Over the next ten years, I started and quit, or was fired from, 15 jobs.
At this point, I was 32 and had no idea what I was doing with my life besides reading self-help books.
At this point, I could have given up on myself; I could have decided that everyone who thought I had potential was wrong.
But I didn't because I knew that it was my behavior that had gotten me here, and behavior is affected by the brain, and my brain has ADHD.
I started doing some research and found a lot of great information. I also found some bad information, but that's another talk.
So I decided to write a book. I had no idea how to do it, but I did! I turned my neurodiversity into my greatest strength by overcoming all the hidden obstacles.... Now it's your turn!
