Total Commitment to Christ: What is it? - A Call to a Radical Faith

Tozer is
as popular today as when he was living on the earth. He is respected right
across the spectrum of Christianity, in circles that would disagree sharply
with him doctrinally. Why is this?

A. W.
Tozer was a man who knew the voice of God. He shared this experience with every
true child of God. With all those who are called by the grace of God to share
in the mystical union that is possible with Him through His Son Jesus. It is
hard for anyone to deny the spiritual power which Tozer experienced and exercised
on a daily basis. It was so clearly evidenced in his life and actions. It may
be he neglected other areas of his life that were just as important, but we
must be careful to never lift any man up to level of sainthood. Tozer was a
man, he had faults. But he loved God and he loved His Church and he fought for

fought against much dryness and formality in his day. Considered a mighty man
of God by most Evangelicals today, he was unconventional in his approach to
spirituality and the time, and had no qualms about consulting everyone from
Catholic Saints to German Protestant mystics for inspiration on how to
experience God more fully. While some are criticized for doing so today, many
look up to Tozer. Many times a prophet is rejected by his own and revered in
later times. Let us be careful we are not rejecting the movement of God’s
spirit in our times, by labelling as heresy that which has God’s blessing on

just like his Master, doesn’t fit neatly into our theological boxes. He was a
man after God’s own heart and was willing to break the rules (man-made ones
that is) to get there.

Here is a
writing by Tozer that touches on the heart of this goal. Total Commitment to Christ: What is it?. It was given by Tozer
shortly before his passing and transcribed shortly thereafter.

This is
meat to sink your spiritual teeth into. Tozer’s writings will show you the way
to satisfy your spiritual hunger.

Take a trip to Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania, where you’ll meet the women of the Kauffman Amish Bakery in Lancaster County. As each woman’s story unfolds, you will share in her heartaches, trials, joys, dreams … and secrets. You’ll discover how the simplicity of the Amish lifestyle can clash with the “English” way of life—and the decisions and consequences that follow. Most importantly, you will be encouraged by the hope and faith of these women, and the importance they place on their families. In the tradition of her widely popular Kauffman Amish Bakery series, author Amy Clipston tells the tale of Anna Mae McDonough who was shunned by her family four years ago when she left her Amish community in Lancaster County, PA, to marry an “Englisher” (non Amish) man and move with him to Baltimore. Now, eight months pregnant when her first child, she longs to return home for Christmas to reconcile with her family, especially her stern father, who is the religious leader for her former Amish church district. So Anne Mae writes a letter to Kathryn Beiler, her brother’s wife, to enlist her help. Kathryn asks her husband, David, if she should arrange Anna Mae’s visit. David cautions her that a visit would cause too much stress in the family and instead suggests they visit Anna Mae and her husband in the spring. However, Kathryn arranges the visit anyway, believing in her heart that it’s God’s will for the family to heal. When Anna Mae arrives in Lancaster for Christmas, the welcome she receives is nothing like what she had hoped for.A book filled with love, the pain of being separated from one’s family, and the determination to follow God’s will regardless of the outcome, A Plain and Simple Christmas is an inspiring page-turner that will keep you guessing what happens next … right to the very last page.

Swami Vivekananda: The Journey of a Spiritual Entrepreneur details the events of Vivekananda's life, encompassing his transformation from a nameless wanderer to the most renowned representative of Hinduism of all times. In this book, we come across the Vivekananda who not only created history by delivering the Chicago Lecture in 1893 but also established the Ramakrishna Order through an unparalleled entrepreneurial spirit which brought to the fore his qualities as a decisive leader and an excellent communicator who reached out globally to convey the message of the Vedanta. These attributes of Vivekananda's personality have remained largely unexplored in most of the books written on him.
This book also maps Hinduism and its present-day challenges vis-à-vis its attributes in light of Swami Vivekananda's philosophy and brings forth its contemporary relevance in a practical manner for the reader at a time when the fire of fundamentalism among different faiths has turned religions of the world essentially into separating factors within humanity. Further, it also contains detailed descriptions of practical approaches to translation that will help scholars build a comprehensive framework for translation of complex texts such as the Vedas and Upanishads. It finally concludes with the Indian media's articulate advocacy of Vivekananda's approach on a number of platforms in recent times, to unite humanity despite all its diversity as it is ever more relevant today.

Eleven Minutes is the story of Maria, a young girl from a Brazilian village, whose first innocent brushes with love leave her heartbroken. At a tender age, she becomes convinced that she will never find true love, instead believing that "love is a terrible thing that will make you suffer. . . ." A chance meeting in Rio takes her to Geneva, where she dreams of finding fame and fortune. Maria's despairing view of love is put to the test when she meets a handsome young painter. In this odyssey of self-discovery, Maria has to choose between pursuing a path of darkness -- sexual pleasure for its own sake -- or risking everything to find her own "inner light" and the possibility of sacred sex, sex in the context of love.
