Summary

"Think of this collection as a literary grab-bag...chances are there's at least one story you'll like/love/enjoy, others which will amuse you, still others which might disturb, and perhaps one or so which you probably won't like. While the bulk of my fictional output over the years has been roughly divided between horror/dark fantasy, science fiction and erotica (of various types), a few pieces have either slipped through the genre cracks, or simply didn't make it into my other collections, either due to content, length, or availability at the time I was assembling those other collections. I've done a couple of western stories, and some undefined things which cover multiple genres, and some poetry which didn't fit in my other collections either -- there's even a short non-fiction piece about my beloved, late cat Bruiser (the same cat featured in my novel The Amulet), as well as a chapter from an outlined but never written Ewerton novel." -- A.R. Morlan, from the Introduction

Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus is a novel written by the British author Mary Shelley. Shelley wrote the novel when she was 18 years old. The first edition was published anonymously in London in 1818, and this audiobook is read from that text. The title of the novel refers to the scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who learns how to create life and creates a being in the likeness of man, but larger than average and more powerful. In modern popular culture, people have tended to refer to the Creature as "Frankenstein" (especially in films since 1931), despite this being the name of the scientist, and the creature being unnamed in the book itself. Frankenstein is a novel infused with elements of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement. It was also a warning against the "over-reaching" of modern man and the Industrial Revolution, alluded to in the novel's subtitle, The Modern Prometheus. The story has had an influence across literature and popular culture and spawned a complete genre of horror stories and films. It is arguably considered the first fully-realised science fiction novel and raises many issues still relevant to today's society.

While staying at an eerie Irish castle, a woman is caught up in a family’s dark secrets, in this suspenseful tale by a New York Times–bestselling author.  For Cathleen Lamb, traveling to Dublin to record the history of the mystery-shrouded O’Riordan family is the answer to a prayer. Still grieving over the accident that killed her husband and baby daughter, she hopes to lose herself in other people’s lives. But something sinister is going on at the ancient castle at the edge of the moors . . . something beyond the scandalous skeletons rattling around the O’Riordans’ closets. The former heir was killed three years earlier in a suspicious fall. The same night, the family matriarch suffered a stroke that left her mute. Despite the malice that surrounds her, Cathleen is drawn to the brooding, darkly passionate man who is plotting to control the family. But even he may not be able to protect her when the crimes of the past reach into the present to terrorize the living.

Mermaids are not always found in the sparkling waters of the deep blue sea. Sometimes you find them inland: in lakes, streams, and even in swimming pools. The Mermaid of Druid Lake is about such an inland dwelling water nymph who coaxes two gentlemen into taking her for a joyride around the park. Sweet, humorous, and delightfully Edwardian this 1906 classic tale will delight lovers of the merfolk and folklore alike.

Montague thinks he has found a way around his curse by purchasing the indentured servant Daliyah to serve as his next meal and tumble. If his appetites should overwhelm her, it would be a pity, but, if need be, he would move on to his next victim.
But his brother, Addison, threatens to upend Montague’s plans when he falls in love with the gentle maid.
Devastated that she now belongs to the Earl of Blackbourne, Daliyah finds comfort in the company of the kindly Mr. Addison Brooke. But when she discovers the truth behind his lordship’s darkness, can she escape before she succumbs to his thirst for blood and his desire for flesh?
