Summary

It can be hard for busy professionals to find the time to read the latest books. Stay up to date in a fraction of the time with this concise guide.Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything is an engaging, thought-provoking look at the behaviour and phenomena we see around us every day. Its authors seek to apply the analytical tools of economics to a host of curiosities to answer questions as diverse as whether your estate agent might be lying to you and when it is in schoolteachers’ best interests to cheat. Their explanations often run counter to conventional wisdom and the explanations provided by academics and politicians, who all too often fail to distinguish between correlation and causation and miss the deeper, hidden causes behind events. Freakonomics is a worldwide publishing phenomenon, with translations into some 35 languages and over four million copies sold worldwide to date. This book review and analysis is perfect for: •	Students of economics•	Anyone with an interest in microeconomics and economic theory•	Anyone who wants to understand the hidden factors that shape our lives and decisionsAbout 50MINUTES.COM | BOOK REVIEWThe Book Review series from the 50Minutes collection is aimed at anyone who is looking to learn from experts in their field without spending hours reading endless pages of information. There is a quote attributed to that most famous of individuals, Anonymous, "Starve your distraction, and feed your focus." This is the perfect idea with which to open this great new work from Brian Tracy.
We live in the most technologically advanced period of history, and in the most technologically advanced country. With the advent of mobile phones, killer apps, broadband internet speeds that stagger the imagination, and nearly any bit of information or products/solutions only one click away, how can it be that remaining optimally productive is such a challenge for so many?
In a word: Distraction. Many of us spend precious time focusing on the incessant and numerous emails, texts, notifications, ads, etc. that seem important . . . even urgent . . . to our success and happiness, but in reality, only complicate our lives and take us even further from our goals. Brian addresses this challenge of distraction in its many forms and shows you how to "feed your focus" on a daily basis. Learn: productivity promises and pitfalls in our modern age; the psychology of productivity; the best productivity methods ever conceived; how to end procrastination once and for all; and productivity and relationships: where it applies and where it doesn't.

Dividends Still Don't Lie - The...

In 1988 Geraldine Weiss wrote the classic Dividends Don't Lie, which focuses on the Dividend Yield Theory as a method of producing consistent gains in the stock market. After the market crash of the late 1980's, the book was a large success. Investors were looking for safety and transperancy, and dividends offered the yields investors desired. Despite the advent of new technologies and the ability of investors to access information on an unprecedented basis, the old school approach of using the dividend yield to identify values in blue chip stocks still outperforms most investment methods on a risk-adjusted basis. That is the primary purpose of writing Dividends Still Don't Lie. Written by Kelley Wright, Managing Editor of Investment Quality Trends, with a new foreword by Geraldine Weiss, this book teaches a value-based strategy to investing, one that uses a stock's dividend yield as the primary measure of value. Because price on its own, without other factors, means nothing, an investor must find some way to determine whether the price of any given company is high, low or just about what it should be. Even though most investors put their money in the market with the hope of reaping a good rate of return, the most tangible source of return, the dividend, is too often underemphasized in this process. According to the dividend-yield theory, the price of a stock is driven by its yield. When a stock offers a high dividend yield, investors will buy, which pushes the price up and gradually erodes the yield. When the yield falls, the stock is shunned, until an absence of demand allows its price to fall. It then descends to a price level at which, again, the yield is attractive to investors. So rather than emphasize the price cycles of a stock, the company's products, market strategy or other factors, this book stresses dividend-yield patterns. Investors will learn to buy and sell when dividend yields instruct them to do so. The dividend yield lets the investor know, with very little doubt, when a share's price is genuinely high, low or on the move between those two points.
